    • 540,583. Beer engines. TURLEY & WILLIAMS, Ltd., SMITH, C. D., and OTTON, D. H. April 20, 1940, No. 7154. [Class 102 (i)] In a beer engine the pump cylinder 4 in which the piston 19 reciprocates is mounted to upstand from the counter and is formed of glass or other transparent material, or has windowed openings, so that the customer can see the beer passing through the pump. The piston 19 is fitted with a non-return valve 42 the lift of which is controlled by an apertured cap 43, and it is connected to the piston rod 5 by a ball-and-socket joint as described in Specification 540,594, [Group XXVI]. The cylinder is supplied by an inlet pipe 9 through a laterally arranged valve chest as described in Specification 540,593. The cylinder is held in a groove in a base 2 by means of a removable cap 31, a bridge bar 32 with legs 33 which are pegged at 34 to the base, and a stud 35 through which the delivery pipe 36 passes. The base 2 is secured by screws 3 to a frame 1 formed integrally with a U-shaped strap 13 having lugs 12 carrying a bolt 15 on which a lever 14 is mounted. The bifurcated end of the lever 14 is connected to a link 16 pivotally mounted at 18 in a looped member 17 interposed in the length of the piston rod 5, the lower end of which passes through a bush 20 in the strap 13. The lever 14 has lateral extensions 22 connected to the limbs 21b of a U-shaped operating lever 21, the links 21b being curved to pass through rubber covered openings in the frame 1 when the lever 21 is reciprocated. The lever 14 also has a tongue 24 to co-act with a set screw 25 carried by the lugs 12 and forming an adjustable stop. The frame 1 may also carry a drip tray 38.

    • 495,922. Foldable ovens. TURLEY & WILLIAMS (1925), Ltd., and SMITH, C. D. Jan. 15, 1938, No. 1388. [Class 126] A foldable oven comprises a shallow box-like bottom member 1, a back wall 3 hinged to the bottom, and side walls 4 hinged to the side edges of the back wall, the side walls when open abutting against the side flanges of the bottom member. The top wall 5 is also hinged to the back wall, and has a short hinged strip 7 at the front to which the door 8 is hinged. When the oven is folded, this strip 7 enables the door 8 to act as a cover for the shallow box formed by the bottom member 1, the other walls folding into this box. A U-shaped member 9 is pivoted to the bottom and gives rigidity to the oven when erected. Inside the oven are two flanged plates 10, 11, Fig. 9, supported by U-shaped legs 12 hinged to the plate 10. Cranked parts of these legs pass through slots 13 in the plate 11. The bottom 1 has a central opening below which a burner is placed, and the plate 10 has perforations at each side for the passage of hot gases.
