    • Apparatus (10) is provided for controlled delivery of gas to a patient. The apparatus is particularly useful for delivery of anaesthetic gases in circumstances where the patient is conscious and able to receive gas upon demand and also where ventilation is poor. The apparatus (10) includes an outlet duct (40) for conveying gas from a gas supply (25) to the patient. A waste gas inlet duct (60) is also provided for receiving gas exhaled by the patient. This is connectable to a suction source (at 35) for scavenging the waste gas. The waste gas inlet duct (60) is arranged so that it can receive gas exhaled by the patient with the outlet duct (via a valve or other diverting means (80)) and around the outlet duct (as guided by shroud (70)).

    • A transition duct (40) for a gas turbine engine (10) incorporating a combination of cooling structures that provide active cooling in selected regions of the duct while avoiding cooling of highly stressed regions of the duct. In one embodiment, a panel (74) formed as part of the transition duct includes some subsurface cooling holes (92) that extend under a central portion of a stiffening rib (90) attached to the panel and some subsurface cooling holes (94) that have a truncated length so as to avoid extending under a rib end (45). Effusion cooling holes (88) used to cool a side subpanel (48) of the panel may have a distribution that reduces to zero approaching a double bend region (48) of the panel. An upstream subpanel (76) of the panel may be actively cooled only when the panel is located on an extrados of the transition duct.

    • An improved seal for sealing across an annulus between an inner cylindrical sealing surface and an outer cylindrical sealing surface. The seal provides a body and a flange spaced therefrom with an annular flexible arch extending between the body and the flange and having a taper of its thickness so that its thinnest section is at the mid point of the arch and within its sealing area. A suitable sealing is provided to seal against the surface opposite to the surface against which the flexible annular arch seals so that there is a complete sealing across the annulus. This seal is suitable for piston rod sealing, valve stem sealing and for sealing in the annulus between two tubular well members.

    • The disclosure illustrates a pantograph comprising a pair of parallel guides slideably and pivotally mounted on a base support which is mounted to a table. A saddle supporting a stylus is mounted on one end of the guides and another saddle slideable on the guides mounts a tool such as a router. A series of parallel adjustable links interconnect the base, tool mounting saddle and stylus saddle, so that movement of the tool saddle is a predetermined scale of the stylus movement. The scale is set by the geometry of the links. The pantograph may also be used to make three dimensional reproductions of an object.
