    • A digital non-contact blade position detection apparatus is provided for use on a wafer dicing machine for blade position detection so as to correct the position of the cutting blade. The apparatus includes a light source for generating a light beam; a light converging optical unit for converting the light beam from the light source to a preset converging point; light diverting means for diverting the beam light from the light converging optical unit to a preset optical path in which the blade is interdisposed; a light diverging optical unit for diverging the diverted light beam from the light diverting means; a CCD position detector, disposed at a third predetermined distance from the light diverging optical unit, for detecting a displacament of a diffractive part of the light beam passing through the optical path between the first and second that is partly blocked out by the blade; an analog-to-digital converter for converting the analog displacement signal from the CCD position detector into digital data; and computer means for processing the digital data to thereby determine the required correction in the position of the blade due to wear to the blade. This apparatus has the benefits of performing the blade position detection in a non-contact manner, enhancing the resolving power to submicron level; allowing the detection to be unaffected by alien particles; and performing the blade position detection with quick response and high precision.

    • An apparatus for multiple modulations with a transition mode in a baseband transmitter and method therefor. An apparatus includes a first modulator, a second modulator, and a modulation output device. The first modulator performs a first modulation to produce a first modulated signal. The second modulator performs a second modulation to produce a second modulated signal. In response to a mode selection signal indicating switching the desired modulation output signal from a current one of the first and the second modulated signals to another one thereof, the modulation output device operates in a transition mode for a transition period to generate the desired modulation output signal according to a weighted sum of the first modulated signal and the second modulated signal. After the transition period, the modulation output device outputs the another one as the desired modulation output signal.

    • An obstacle and cliff avoiding system is disclosed, which is substantially a movable chassis having at least a displacement sensor arranged thereon. In a preferred embodiment, each displacement sensor is tilted by a specific angle with respect to a surface detected thereby while being driven to move in circle by a rotating apparatus for enabling the same to scan a defined fan-like area or the circular area around the chassis in a circulating manner. As each displacement sensor is tilted by the specific angle and is initiated to issue a working signal, the paths of signal emission and reception of each sensor are defined by the specific angle, whereas the reflected working signal received by the sensor is sent to a control unit to be compared with the working signal so that the control unit is able to evaluate whether there is an obstacle or a drop in front of the moving direction of the movable chassis and thus control the chassis to maneuver around the obstacle or the drop.
