    • 1622. Cox, T. Feb. 2. Brush-making machines.-A machine for setting tufts in a brush stock consists of a sliding plate i mounted to slide in a headstock g for receiving and guiding the bristles to the required position, and a sliding tapered plunger h for forcing the bristles into the hole in the stock, which is centred and held up to position by the spring plunger stop 4. The various parts are mounted on a table b having raised edges on three sides and having the operating treadle lever mounted in the underframing. The plate i carries, near its front, fixed guide plates or rollers q, against which the bristles s are laid, and between which the bristles are folded by the plunger h until they pass to the tapering V-guide l. The plate i is extended backward by arms m and a cross-head n, by which it is connected to a fixture p through the spring o. In a modification, the rearward extension is not employed, the plate i being connected to the plunger-operating lever through a lost-motion connexion, consisting of a slotted plate and pin. The plunger h is tapered at the front and is there recessed to engage with the bristles and force them into the stock while the plate i retires under its spring action. The plunger is operated at its rear end by a treadle lever, having a spring or other returning motion, which projects through a slot e in the table. The bristles are held up to an adjustable gauge 10 by means of a follower plate 11 or lever 14 operated by an adjustable link 16 connected to the end of the plunger.

    • Exercise apparatus is provided and comprises: a pair of handle elements, and a pair of housing elements; each handle element comprises a manually grippable bar and a base portion presenting a substantially spherical contact surface. Each housing element is substantially hemispherical and defines a substantially central window. Each handle element is releasably locatable within a housing element to form a substantially hemispherical handle body in which the contact surface of the handle element is presented within the window of the housing element and provides a contact point about which the housing body is rotatable when located on a support surface. The exercise apparatus is particularly useful for performing push-up exercises. A hemispherical exercise apparatus is further disclosed which includes a handle body having a rigid profile for preventing over tilting in a direction of rotation about a floor contact point during use.
