      SOLUTION: The medical measuring system includes the medical measuring device 30, including a housing 31 with front surface 32;a face plate 70 removably accepted on at least partial area of the front surface 32 to include face plate surface 84 for correcting the housing 31 of the medical measuring device 30; and the cover 20 with an attaching member 60 for removably attaching the cover to the front surface 32 of the medical measuring device 30. The face plate 70 is located between the cover 20 and the front surface 32 of the medical measuring device 30, while the cover 20 demarcates an aperture 52 so that the face plate surface 84 is visible through the cover 20.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve many constitutional defects of conventional techniques by eliminating or minimizing the need for key switches, in a device for marking prescribed phenomena (such as glucose value in a bodily fluid) through the use of a biosensor.
      SOLUTION: The biosensor includes both a sensor for detecting measurement values (such as, as resistance value) of spokes 36A-36D, which have received a user sample to be measured and a microprocessor 52 for measuring prescribed parameter values by executing prescribed test sequences. A memory 54 is coupled to the processor 52 for storing the prescribed parameter values. For selectively marking one among a plurality of prescribed phenomena through the use of the stored prescribed parameter values, a marker member having the spokes 36A-36D is manually coupled to the processor 52 by user.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enzyme activity sensor providing many advantages, including small scale of operation, speed, sensitivity, specificity, and ease of production.
      SOLUTION: The enzyme activity sensor has a planar waveguide containing a substrate for the enzyme. In the enzyme activity sensor, (1) the substrate contains a detectable label or (2) the substrate is modified so that the activity of the enzyme can modify the substrate to include the detectable label. The method for detecting the enzymatic activity involves (a) a step for exposing the planar wave guide of the enzyme activity sensor to a sample to be tested under a condition allowing the enzyme to act on the substrate, (b) a step for irradiating the planar waveguide to form an attenuation field, and (c) a step for examining the attenuation field as for the presence of the detectable label.
