The anti-egress CHILD LOCK release enables immediate post-accident unlatchability of the motor vehicle's rear door by an occupant of the motor vehicle and allow unencumbered egress from the motor vehicle. The result is reduced risk particularly for automobile rest-seat passengers including children and adults who might otherwise remain dangerously entrapped within a wrecked vehicle and suffering risk for further post-accident physical or psychological trauma or even death due to bodily entrapment, fire or explosion which may follow an accident.

    • Driving aid apparatus for determining the best, most economical operating conditions for a motor vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission. The input member rotational rate of a torque converter coupled with the automatic transmission is measured. The rotational rate of the output member of the torque converter is also measured. A distinct difference may normally exist between these two rates, when a load is applied to the torque converter output, due to "slip" through the torque converter. The extent of this slip is in part proportional to the torque transmitted through the torque converter and, therefore, by a determination made from the difference between the two rates in combination with other key parameters affecting torque converter performance, the relative engine output torque can be found. Through utilizing this relative torque factor, in combination with other engine parameter signals such as manifold vacuum, operating temperature, and throttle position, the relative operating steadiness and net efficiency of the instant operating conditions of the overall vehicle is derived and displayed for the driver. This display enables the driver to operate the vehicle in a manner leading to uniform performance and maximum fuel economy. Through a control available for driver adjustment, the computed indicator responses are further modified to best suit the driving habits of the driver. A unique vehicle performance profile memory adds the dimension of tailoring the computed responses to the exact performance characteristics of the attendant vehicle.

    • My present invention relates to didactic apparatus as particularly adapted to the tutelage of mathematical fundamentals, multiple choice statements, and the like. A set of inexpensive instructional problem or "flash" cards is prepared for the student for use in conjunction with, and as an essential part of my invention. Each interrogative card in the set contains a problem statement in student readable form, together with a machine readable cryptogrammic answer for the problem. As each problem card is methodically inserted into my didactic machine, the machine elements interpret the answer cryptogram, while the instructional problem remains visable to the student. The student summarily provides a response by inserting his separately selected answer elements from another set of answer cards which, in a way similar to the problem cards, have the plainly visible response elements clearly inscribed on each card, together with a machine readable code or cryptogram for each response element. As the answer cards are individually inserted into the machine operator, the answer card cryptograms are electronically compared with the problem card cryptogram and should they match, it means the student has entered the correct answer resulting in a student "correct answer" signal. Conversely, a non-coincident match may produce a "wrong answer" signal. Further embodiments of my invention include trial advance, scorekeeping, "answer too big" or "answer too small" visual indications, and sonant indications.

    • The exact shaft angle position synchronization of two or more ordinary synchronous induction motors is provided. One motor, serving as the master, is powered directly from a source of alternating current. Each additional motor, which may be of a different size or type, is slaved to the intrinsic rotational speed of the master through the inherent electrical speed synchronization wrought by being excited by a common alternating current power source. Each slave motor is further synchronized by this invention to attain, and subsequently hold, an exact angular shaft position relative to the master. The position of the master and each slave motor shaft position is constantly measured, thereby producing several trains of electrical pulses which are compared. When an error exists, an electrical signal is produced which acts with the a.c. excitation applied to the slave motor so as to controllably retard its rotational velocity, thereby causing the angular shaft position to the slave motor to slip, or be retarded, relative to the angular position of the master motor shaft. When the angle of the slave has slipped sufficiently, and generally less than 360 degrees, the pulse train produced by the master and the slave achieve momentary coincidence and the electrical retardation of the slave motor ceases. The subsequent result is a mechanical synchronization of the angular shaft position of each motor, which is then maintained in that useful relationship by the nature of their common speed synchronization with the alternating current source frequency.

    • A two terminal timed electric switch which connects in series with but one side of a power carrying a.c. circuit. In particular the timer serves as an effective replacement for the ubiquitous wall-switch type of on and off device used in the construction trades, as in houses, business buildings, and the like. An advantage is that when used as a replacement for an ordinary switch, the timer serves to achieve significant energy savings by turning forgotten lights off when not needed. The timer functions as a delayed-off switch; that is to say the switch and the load are turned on by manual actuation, but turn-off does not occur until some finite time period has elapsed. The timed switch employs all electronic timing elements, e.g. no motors or thermal timing elements or the like. The principal power for operation of the circuits attendant to the timer is obtained by the substantial current flow between the source and the load when the load is "on" and therefore has no necessitous adjoinment with but one side of a power carrying circuit.

The result is an electrical circuit change which may be utilized in a current seeking path to produce different binary logic values in accord with the coded aperture pattern carried by the membrane.

    • My invention relates to improved means for a concealed structure detector apparatus, and more particularly, to a portable device producing a polyindicative, usually biphonic, sensory response capable of providing the operator with an indication of the relative direction of lay for a covert structurement. The detector responds to pulse pattern modulated electromagnetic field signals established in the concealment object by a separate acting efficacious exciter means. The detector includes at least two inducers which are axilly offset and thereby effective to independently respond to variation in the electromagnetic field lines emanating from the structure in proportionate accordance to the relative positions of the individual inducers with respect to the structure. The demodulated pulse pattern signals effectively produced by each inducer response are each conditioned in a substantially independent manner, therefrom resulting in an indicative form capable of providing an intelligent being with a sense of directionality, exampledly "right" or "left" orientation relative to a concealed structure.

    • A directional concealed object locator, say metal detector, employing a beat frequency oscillator and at least two search oscillators. The search oscillators each include a loop antenna which in part serves to determine the search frequency signal rate of each oscillator and functionally serves to produce an electromagnetic field of relatively large proportions from each loop antenna which is portably so orientable as to have the extended electromagnetic field lines, which emanate from each loop antenna, separately coupled to a buried, or otherwise obscured metal object and thereby produce changes in the search signal rate as the proximity therebetween is varied. The common beat oscillator produces a signal so related to each search frequency signal as to be conjointed in a heterodyne detector and therefrom produce at least two audio frequency notes the resultant periodicities of which are proportional to the difference between each of the search frequency signal rates and the common beat oscillator signal rate. Further improvement is provided in that each resultant audio frequency difference rate is aggrandized so as to change at a rate, in hertz, which is far in excess of any change, in hertz, directly produced in each search fundamental frequency signal by varied object proximateness. The effect is to cause an apparent increased sensitivity, which is shown in one form so as to be variable, in the operation of the metal detector, while at the same time providing proximal resolution by way of a left-hand, or else right-hand, indication of the hidden object transversal path.

    • A didactic, or teaching, apparatus upon which interrogatory documents, or test sheets, may be placed in the manner of an overlay on the face side of the machine. The interrogatory document, which contains at least one interrogative statement, or question, together with at least two alternative responses, or answers, will be visibly illuminated from behind by an arrangement of light emitting devices. The light will fall on the document from behind so as to distinctly transilluminate the document in the several areas occupied by the alternative responses. The several areas of the alternative responses are, at the same time, caused to individually cooperate with several coupling devices, wherein one separate coupling device is provided for each of the several alternative responses. The student continues the didactic activity by electing one alternative response, for each interrogatory statement, whereupon he places a handheld, pen-like, probe containing a portable coupling means which is responsively interactive with any one of the several coupling devices affixed to the machine. Cooperation is accomplished betwixt the selected coupling device and the portable, variously positioned, coupling means so as to cause the machine to respond to the student's choice through making a comparison of the choice with a signal pattern indicating proper choices which is derived from a unique, cipher-like, indicia present on each interrogatory document which may be meaningfully read by the machine, but not the student.

A further purpose of my invention is to provide an attention getting sensory signal in the event of improper operation of the manual clutch. A further purpose of my invention is to provide sensory indication which will serve to tutor the experienced operator such as to effect more efficient operation of the said vehicular machine.
