    • A method for handling soiled bank notes is disclosed. The method includes directing a bank note to an ultraviolet detector; transmitting an ultraviolet signal from the ultraviolet detector to the bank note; receiving a reflected ultraviolet signal from the bank note at the ultraviolet detector; analyzing the reflected ultraviolet signal; identifying a soiling level for the bank note based on analysis of the reflected ultraviolet signal; and handling the bank note based on the identified soiling level. Analyzing the reflected ultraviolet signal can include comparing a characteristic of the reflected ultraviolet signal with calibration data. The calibration data can be stored in a computer-readable medium. The bank note is identified as a soiled bank note if the identified soiling level exceeds a threshold soiling level.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermediate or high-voltage multi-inverter system. SOLUTION: An intermediate or high-voltage multi-inverter system includes a plurality of inverter cells in phase line, and increases voltage level to support a system, supports high-voltage loadings, such as AC 3-phase motors. In one configuration, two cells are used for each of two phase lines, and one and five cells for a third phase line. In one of the phase lines having two cells, a second cell is connected directly with reverse polarity and generates a phase that matches the phase of a third line. The other cell of the phase line generates the output of a different phase. One or more failure switches can be included in order to permit short-circuiting of output range of one or more cells, and thus, when these is a cell failure, continued operation of the system is enabled.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power conversion circuit provided with clamp and soft-start.
      SOLUTION: A power converter comprises a current source that supplies an input current; a transformer having a primary winding and a secondary winding; a switch circuit network that connects the current source and the primary winding; and a clamp circuit connected with the switch circuit network. An output bus is connected with the secondary winding, and output voltage is supplied. A control circuit has inputs, based on the output voltage and the input current and generates a switch circuit network control signal based on these inputs. The control circuit further generates a clamping circuit control signal, based on the switch circuit network control signal. The power converter may be provided with a startup control circuit so constituted as to selectively control the switching circuit network and the clamping circuit for increasing the output voltage to a desired level. In some embodiments, the switching circuit network is of full bridge, and the clamping circuit includes first and second clamping switches.
