    • Apparatus and method for producing a disposable absorbent garment from flexible material having elasticized portions tending to contract the product (40) as it moves along a path (54). The apparatus (10) includes a plurality of spaced apart engaging members (64, 66) which grip opposed edge and end margins of the product (40) and a conveyor (74, 84) on which the engaging members are mounted to carry the engaging member (64, 66) and products (40) stretched therebetween along a production path (54). At various stations along the production path apparatus is provided for retarding forward movement of one of the sets of engaging members (98) to fold a leading edge portion thereof back into a position overlying a trailing end portion thereof, joining apparatus (120) for sealing side edge margins together, and severing mechanism (124) for severing the article from the engaging members (64, 66). A holding rod (106, 108) extends longitudinally and is received within the garment as it is folded over to hold it in a laterally stretched condition after it is released from the engaging members (64, 66). A tucking member (110, 112) downstream from the severing mechanisms is operable to tuck in side edge margins to produce a properly folded garment (134E) ready for packaging.

    • A system, method, and apparatus for preparing an absorbent core for use in absorbent garments is disclosed. The apparatus includes a funnel having a first end and a second end, the second end being narrower in diameter than the first end, and a nozzle having a straight section, a curved section, and a tip. The straight section of the nozzle is operatively associated with the second end of the funnel. The apparatus further includes a diverter plate operatively associated with the curved section of the nozzle. The invention provides a more uniform distribution of super absorbent particles within the fluff pulp used to make the absorbent core, thus improving performance of the absorbent core. An absorbent garment made using an absorbent core made with the apparatus of the invention also is disclosed. The absorbent garment provides better leakage protection than absorbent garments incorporating conventional absorbent cores.

    • The invention generally relates to an integral elastomeric side panel that is suitable for use in or on a disposable absorbent garment. The integral elastomeric side panel (50) is formed from a material that has unidirectional or multidirectional directions. A fastening device (36) is associated with the integral elastomeric side panel (50). A disposable absorbent garment (10) including the integral elastomeric side panel also is disclosed. The integral elastomeric side panel (50) is formed from the unitary composite sheet that is prepared during assembly of the absorbent garment in a manner such that it does not require separate attachment to the garment. A rear waist edge (21) of the absorbent garment, while in a relaxed state, can extend a length that is greater than the lateral dimension of the unitary composite sheet from which the garment is formed.

    • The present invention relates generally to an absorbent multi-layer material or to a core for an absorbent article, and more particularly to an absorbent multi-layer material or to a core comprising a central absorbent layer positioned between an upper layer and a lower layer, wherein at least of the upper and/or lower layer(s) has a vertical wicking index of greater than about 6 cm after 19 minutes and/or greater than about 3 cm after 1 minute. Such a multi-layer material or multi-layer core provides improved strength, absorption and rewetting properties. An absorbent article that contains such a multi-layer material or core provides improved ability to absorb and retain fluids and consequently, prevents excessive rewetting and leakage.
