    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for disinfecting a contact lens with a disinfecting solution safe to the eyes. SOLUTION: The method of cleaning/disinfecting the soft contact lens includes processes of: (a) scouring the contact lens with a solution which is safe to the eyes and contains the following components (i) to (iii): (i) a hydrochloride salt of bisbiguanides in an amount effective for sterilization of about 2.0 to about 8.0 ppm having formula below or another water soluble salt or a corresponding molar amount or bisbiguanides in the form of a free base expressed by general formula (A), (ii) an effective amount of a buffer, and (iii) an effective amount of a surfactant; and (b) immersing the contact lens subjected to the scouring in the process (a) into the solution for the total time of about 5 to about 75 minutes, wherein the immersion exceeding the minimum immersion time of 75 minutes is not required; and (c) directly putting the processed lens on the eye of a wearing person, wherein rinsing with a different solution is not required.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for cleansing and disinfecting a contact lens.
      SOLUTION: A cleansing solution for contact lenses is described that includes a carbohydrate that is a mono- or disaccharide, its alcohols or partially hydrolyzed esters or mixtures thereof. Preferred carbohydrates are sorbitol, glucose, maltose, sucrose, dulcitol, dextran, dextrin, mannitol, maltitol, or mannose, preferably in an amount of 0.001 to 10% by weight of an aqueous solution for cleansing the contact lenses. A preferred composition for cleansing contact lenses comprises sorbitol in an amount of about 0.1 to 11% by weight in an aqueous solution. A method for cleansing contact lenses with the carbohydrate cleansing solution is described and may be combined with a formula using a chemical antimicrobial agent or thermal disinfection for simultaneously cleansing and disinfecting contact lenses.
