摘要： An improved MPEG-4 to H.264 transcoding algorithm is provided, exploiting residual, coding mode and motion vector information from the MPEG-4 stream. The use of the relative sum of absolute residuals (RSAR) to classify macroblocks (MB) leads to small sets of coding modes (CM) to test, and significantly reduces the computational complexity. In addition, RSAR is used to conditionally refine motion vectors (MV); only those MVs most likely to lead to quality improvements are refined. The average RSAR statistics are obtained from the transcoding of the previous Inter frame to provide adaptive thresholds for coding mode selection as well as conditional MV refinement. A corresponding video transcoder system is also provided.

摘要： The present invention relates to a Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO) and to use of the VCO in a high-temperature sensor transceiver. The VCO has a voltage input and a frequency of oscillation dependent on the voltage input. The VCO includes a transistor providing a gain allowing for a sustained oscillation. The transistor also has a capacitance that varies as a function of the voltage input. The high-temperature sensor includes a high-temperature sensor operatively coupled to the VCO for wireless transmission of an output signal of the sensor.

摘要： A programmable permanent magnet actuator, a magnetic field generation apparatus and a method of controlling thereof. The actuator has a first body that is a ferromagnetic material, a second body that is a single magnetized ferromagnet and a magnetic field generation device associable to the second body to generate a magnetic field in proximity with the second body. The actuator also has a controller adapted to control the magnetic field generation device to generate a controlled magnetic field. The controlled magnetic field is adapted to modify a magnetization of the second body such as to produce with the second body a required magnetic field to move one of the first or the second body with respect to one another according to a desired position or a desired torque. The desired position or the desired torque is maintained even after the application of the controlled magnetic field. The apparatus has a permanent magnet that has an intrinsic coercivity (Hci) value that is greater than 200kA/m and a remanence (Br) value that is greater than 0.4 Tesla. The apparatus also has a magnetic field generation device associated to the permanent magnet and a controller connected to the magnetic field generation device. The controller is adapted to control the magnetic field generation device to produce a controlled magnetic field to variably modify a magnetization of the permanent magnet in order to produce a desired variable magnetic field and influence the electrically charged or magnetized material when placed in the desired variable magnetic field.

摘要： A visual quality assessment method and system are based on deriving a quality metric by comparing sub-band approximations of a distorted image and an undistorted version of the same image, providing a good compromise between computational complexity and accuracy. The sub-band approximations are derived from Discrete Wavelet (Haar) transforms of small image blocks of each image. Due to inherent symmetries, the wavelet transform is "blind" to certain types of distortions. But the accuracy of the method is enhanced, and the blindness of the transform is overcome, by computing quality metrics for the distorted image as well as computing quality metrics for a shifted version of the distorted image and combining the results.

摘要： A method for creating a frame of reference of a leg of a subject for subsequent 3-D kinematic analysis of the leg with non-invasive trackable references secured to the femur and the tibia of the leg. The method comprises the steps of: i) obtaining tibial and femoral axes with respect to the trackable references by tracking points and motions of the leg; ii) registering a known posture of the subject with respect to the trackable references; iii) obtaining a desired posture of the subject with respect to the trackable references as a function of the known posture by tracking a predetermined motion of the leg; and iv) setting a frame of reference to said tibial and femoral axes of the leg in the desired posture of the subject with respect to the trackable references.
