    • A system is provided for transporting wayside data on a rail vehicle. The system includes a wayside device positioned adjacent to a rail, where the rail vehicle travels along the rail. The system includes a transceiver coupled to the wayside device to transmit and receive data relating to the operation of the wayside device. Additionally, the system includes a transceiver coupled to the rail vehicle in communication with the wayside device transceiver upon the rail vehicle passing within a proximate distance of the wayside device. The rail vehicle transceiver transmits or receives the data based upon the communication with the wayside device transceiver. The rail vehicle transports the data between the wayside device and a secondary location along a pre-existing route of the rail vehicle prior to the communication with the wayside device transceiver. A method is also provided for transporting wayside data on a rail vehicle.

    • A control system is provided for improving the handling of a powered system traveling along a route. The powered system includes a first and second powered vehicle respectively positioned in two consists, which are separated by at least one non-powered vehicle. The control system includes a controller configured to determine at least one slack location along the powered system. The slack location represents a force separation in the powered system between two respective regions, which include a compression region subject to a compression force and a tension region subject to a tension force. The controller is coupled to a respective engine of a powered vehicle, and the controller adjusts an output of the engine to control a rate of change of the at least one slack location along the powered system. Additionally, a method is provided for improving the handling of a powered system traveling along a route.

    • A kit and method for converting a locomotive from a first configuration to a second configuration having a different operational capability. The kit includes a traction assembly including a mechanical subassembly configured to mechanically couple a first axle of a truck to a traction system of the locomotive; and an electromotive subassembly configured to electromotively couple the first axle to the traction system of the locomotive via the mechanical subassembly. When the kit is installed in the locomotive, the locomotive is converted from the first configuration having the first axle uncoupled from the traction system and a second axle of the truck coupled to the traction system to the second configuration having the first axle coupled to the traction system and a second axle coupled to the traction system.

    • A locomotive truck and method for distributing weight asymmetrically to axles of the truck includes a first axle of a locomotive truck uncoupled from a traction system of the locomotive and a first suspension assembly coupling the first axle to the truck for applying to the first axle a first portion of a locomotive weight. The truck also includes a second axle coupled to the traction system and a second suspension assembly coupling the second axle to the truck for applying to the second axle a second portion of the locomotive weight greater than the first portion so that weight is asymmetrically distributed to the first axle and the second axle so as to transmit a corresponding incremental amount of tractive effort for a given amount of a driving torque applied to the second axle via the traction system of the locomotive.
