The torsion quantity of the torsion bar at the time of the generation of torque is detected as the movement quantity of the light spot on the light emitting element 3 and the signal processing circuit 6 performs signal processing of (V1-V2)/(V1-V2) with respect to two output voltage V1, V2 of the light emitting element. By this method, the detection of torque can be performed even at a stationary time.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain an optical torque detector which can detect torque even during the static state by providing a photodetector made of 1-chip 2-element constitution disposed to face a light emitting element and subjecting the two output voltages of the photodetector to signal processing to determine the ratio thereof. CONSTITUTION:This detector is provided with the light emitting element 3 which is fixed to one end of a torsion bar and the photodetector 4 which is made of the 1-chip 2-element constitution and is fixed and disposed to the other end of the torsion bar so as to face the light emitting element. A detection circuit 61 converts the outputs from the respective photodetectors to the output corresponding to the torque by obtaining the ratio thereof. The light emitting spot of the light emitting element is positioned at the center of the dual photodetectors when the torque does not act and therefore the outputs from the dual photodetectors are balanced. The relative positions of the light emitting element and the photodetector change and the outputs from the dual photodetectors are unbalanced if the torque acts. An output difference is then generated and the generated output difference is the signal corresponding to the torque. The ratio of the outputs for the respective photodetectors is obtd. and is converted to the output corresponding to the torque in order to make temp. compen sation.

At this time, the torque graduations of the torque meter 11 are transmitted to show a torque value but, because the graduations 12 are rotated, they can not be read. Herein, when the stroboscope 15 irradiating the torque graduations 12 of the torque meter 11 is allowed to generate light at a cycle synchronous to the rotation of the torque meter 11, the graduations 12 appear as though they are stopped and the indicated data can be read.
