    • PURPOSE:To recover efficiently the unreacted Na2CO3 in a slag, by treating the slag prepared by desulfurizing and dephosphorizing a molten iron with Na2 CO3 with water and CO2, separating a liquid part from a solid, blowing CO2 through the resultant separated liquid, depositing sodium bicarbonate, and separating the deposited sodium bicarbonate. CONSTITUTION:A molten iron is desulfurized or dephosphorized with Na2CO3, and the resultant waste slag is then pulverized and mixed with water. CO2 gas is then blown through the mixture to extract the waste slag with an alkali at 0.50-0.60 carbonation degree Z (Z=CO2/Na). The resultant extract is then filtered to give a liquid, and CO2 gas is further blown therethrough to control the carbonation degree (Z) to 0.61-1.00 and separate the alkali substance in the liquid into sodium bicarbonate crystals from a saturated solution thereof; the satd. soln. is then reutilized as an exteacting agent for the waste slag. The resultant sodium bicarbonate crystals are then dried and decomposed and recovered as Na2CO3. The CO2 and hot gas generated at this stage are returned to the extracting step of the waste slag and the crystallization step of the sodium bicarbonate and reutilized as a CO2 source and heat source. The unreacted Na2CO3 can be recovered from the waste slag at a lower cost than the conventional one.
