摘要： An extrusion method and apparatus for removing volatile contents from solid state resin materials is described. A cascade-type extruding device is used having first and second extruders. A top end portion of the first extruder 10 is directly connected to a rear side portion of a cylinder of the second extruder 100. Volatile contents of a melted resin, which is melted when the solid state resin material is supplied to the first extruder, are removed in a volatile content removing vacuum unit provided on an upstream side of the connection between the first and second extruders. The melted resin is then extruded from a nozzle provided at a top end portion of the second extruder. The volatile content removing vacuum region of the volatile content removing vacuum unit 140 extends over a first region, which is under the control of the first extruder, and a second region, which is under the control of the second extruder. The pressure and temperature of the melted resin in the first region are controlled in accordance with the properties of the melted resin.

Also disclosed is a method of preparing a tubular article including obtaining a bimodal polyethylene having a density of from 0.930 g/cc to 0.960 g/cc and a molecular weight distribution of from 10 to 25, and processing the polyethylene under conditions where a specific energy input (SEI) is less than 300 kW·h/ton, and wherein the article has a PENT of at least 1500. Further disclosed is a method for controlling the degradation of polyethylene including polymerizing ethylene monomer, recovering polyethylene, extruding the polyethylene, and controlling the degradation of polyethylene by measuring the SEI to the extruder and adjusting throughput and/or gear suction pressure keep SEI less than 300 kW·h/ton, and forming an article.

The methods further include the step of rotating at least one mixing screw to cause the batch material to travel along a flow path defined by a barrel of the extruder. The methods further include the step of indexing a carriage to remove a first device from the flow path and introduce a second device into the flow path of the batch material. In one example, the pressure of the batch material changes less than about 25% as a result of indexing the carriage. In addition or alternatively, further methods include the step of reducing a decrease in temperature of the batch material resulting from the step of indexing. In further examples, the method includes the step of pre-filling a second honeycomb extrusion die held by the carriage with a plugging material.

The introduction systems may be used in discontinuous plasticating processes, such as injection molding and blow molding, and can be particularly useful in processes that use precise quantities of blowing agent.

A kneading method using the kneading apparatus is also disclosed.
