    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to two-dimensionally form optical fiber holes and to package these holes at the same external shape sizes as the external shape sizes of a one-dimensional array type and at double density by providing both upper and lower molds of metal molds with pin positioning mechanisms for forming the holes, respectively positioning pins for forming the optical fiber holes arrayed in two steps and fixing these pins to each other by means of spacers. SOLUTION: Both of the upper mold 17 and the lower mold 11 are provided with the pin positioning mechanisms 13, 13' for forming the holes. The pins 5, 5' for forming the optical fiber holes are arrayed in the two steps in the direction where the centers of the pins 6, 6' for footing the guide holes are coupled. The upperstep pins 5' are positioned by the pin positioning mechanism 13 of the upper mold 17 and the lower-step pins 5 by the pin positioning mechanism 13 of the lower mold 11. The pins 5, 5' are fixed by means of the spacers 7 disposed between the pins of the upper and lower steps. As a result, the optical connector ferrule which has the same external shape sizes as the external shape sizes of the optical connector ferrule of the one-dimensional array type, allows the vertical two-dimensional formation of the optical fiber holes in the regions held by the guide holes at both ends of the optical connector ferrule and have the twice packaging density is produced.

    • PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for parallel movement in a longitudinal direction and alignment in a rotating direction around the two axes orthogonal with the longitudinal direction at the time of alignment and to dispense with the alignment of only the X, Y directions and X-Y plane by polishing the end face of a metallic sleeve simultaneously with the end face of an optical fiber array, thereby constituting the optical fiber array. CONSTITUTION: An optical fiber positioning member 2 is composed of two sheets of plates, upper and lower, for clamping optical fibers 1 in a sandwich form. The inner side of the metallic sleeve 3 enclosing this optical fiber positioning member 2 is sealed and fixed by solder together with the optical fibers 1 and the positioning member 2 at the end face. The metallic sleeve 3 is so polished as to be made flush with the optical fiber plane over the entire periphery at the end face of the optical fiber array. The polished end face of the metallic sleeve 3 is made to form a butt surface at the time of positioning and fixing the optical fiber array to the other parts, for example, LD array, lens array, etc., of an optical parallel transmission optical module.
