摘要： In a method of making a fibrous thermally insulating layer of coherent structure, a quantity of fibers is treated with a binder, whereby prior to or during the treatment with the binder, fibers are formed into a quantity of particles each having a substantially rounded periphery and consisting of a number of short fibers and the particles treated with the binder are conveyed by means of a gas as conveying medium via an inlet piece 11, 13 to within a container 3, the particles being blocked by an outlet piece 8 for the container, the outlet piece 8 being formed with gas outlet apertures 10. The particles are formed by vigorously agitating a number of flakes in a vessel, each flake consisting of arbitrarily arranged short fibers, and simultaneously applying pulsating forces to at least part of the volume of flakes, so that the flakes are converted into particles having a substantially rounded periphery and having a higher density than that of the flakes.

摘要： Shaped pieces of insulation having non-uniform thickness but substantially uniform density are formed by simultaneously compacting and consolidating at least first and second portions of a particulate insulation material in an independent manner so as to form a shaped piece of insulation in which the first and second portions have different thicknesses in the direction of compaction. The degree of compaction of the first portion is the same as the degree of compaction of the second portion so that the shaped piece of insulation has substantially uniform density.

Provision is made for adjusting the vibratory means, so as to take up wear, in a machine for moulding concrete pipes. As shown, the pipes are moulded between mould casings 6 and cores 7 (Fig. 1) mounted on a table 2 vibrated by a cam 17, with steps 18, the cain abutting on eccentric 23 having a hard metal outer surface 27, which may be adjusted to compensate for wear and keep the amplitude of vibration constant. The eccentric has end arms 24, Fig. 3, which are in threaded engagement with depending walls 22 from table 2 and is adjusted by a tommy bar passing through an aperture 31 in the end arm 24 the amount of adjustment being indicated by a dial 35 on the depending wall 22.

[Class 87 (ii)] In machines for moulding conduits from concrete or other plastic material comprising a number of rotating plungers or cores 1 vertically suspended from a verticallymovable carriage 4 and adapted to enter one or more moulds 6, tamping rods 9 are provided around the cores and gradually rise during moulding, the rods being suspended from a movable platform 10 carrying means for vibrating them. The cores 1 may be rotated about their axes by gearingorflexible cables from an electric motor 3. The carriage 4 is raised and lowered from a winch 5. The platform 10 is moved by cables 11 and a clockcontrolled winch 15 and the tampers may be reciprocated by cams 13 from a motor 14. The tampers may be operated by mounting electric or pneumatic vibrators on the platform 10 or successively from a cam track. They may drop under spring action. The cores may be provided with inclined presser elements as described in Specification 462,431. The carriage 4 may be counterbalanced. The mould 6 may be in two parts mounted on a base 7 having apertures 8 engaged by the cores. The mould may be shaped as at 19 to provide a socket end and may be provided with vibrators 18.

Tamping-machines. -Relates to machines for moulding oval concrete pipes of the type involving a rotating mould and a rammer supported in a frame moved horizontally by a cam or templet to cause the rammer to follow the contour of the mould, and comprises a double templet having contours corresponding to the inner and outer contours of the pipe, the two parts of the templet being brought into operation alternately and automatically. As shown, the templet 3 is rotatable with a shaft 5, but is movable axially thereof by counterweighted levers 6 controlled by a cam 10 to bring the two parts of the templet alternately into engagement with a roller 1 on the rammer frame.
