    • Methods and apparatus for efficient revocation of receivers. In one implementation, a method of broadcast encryption includes: assigning a respective master key to each of a plurality of receivers, where each master key can be used to derive two or more of a plurality of sub keys; revoking one or more receivers, leaving one or more unrevoked receivers; for each master key of an unrevoked receiver, selecting the sub key that can be derived by that master key and derived by the most other master keys but not derived by a master key of any of the one or more revoked receivers; for each selected sub key, encrypting one ciphertext using that selected sub key; and sending the encrypted ciphertexts to the plurality of receivers.

    • An information processing method, decrypting method, information processing apparatus, and computer program are provided. An information processing method generates a hierarchical tree used to provide a ciphertext decryptable only by a specific selected device through broadcast encryption. The method includes the steps of generating a unidirectional hierarchical tree including nodes having respective node associated values, the node associated value of each of the nodes being calculatable by a function using the node associated value and a node attached variable of at least one lower node; setting an intermediate label allowing calculation of values of labels associated with a special subset selected from labels of subsets defined based on a subset difference method; generating labels of the special subset by a calculation based on the intermediate label, and generating labels not associated with the special subset by a calculation based on the labels generated; and determining labels to be provided to a receiver associated with a terminal node of the hierarchical tree.

    • An information processing system and method using an encryption key block sets sub-trees classified based on data processing ability of the devices (capability) in a key tree in which respective keys are corresponded to a root, nodes and leaves of a tree in which a plurality of devices are constituted as the leaves, generates a sub-enabling key block which is effective for an entity in a managing subject of each sub-tree (entity), and generates an enabling key block decodable only by the entities having common capability. Also, an information processing system and method using an encryption key block manages a partial tree of a key tree (sub-tree), generates a sub-enabling key block based only on a key set corresponding to nodes or leaves included in the sub-tree, and generates an enabling key block decodable only by selected entities by using the sub-enabling key block. Thus, it is possible to generate and distribute an enabling key block corresponding to data processing ability of a device and to manage devices by dividing a hierarchical key tree structure.
