    • A refrigerant circuit includes a compressor and an expansion valve. The expansion valve is connected to a discharge muffler of the compressor by a high pressure conduit. The expansion valve is also connected to a suction passage of the compressor by a low pressure conduit. The high pressure conduit includes a condenser and the low pressure conduit includes an evaporator. A check valve is located between the discharge muffler and the high pressure conduit to selectively connect and disconnect the high pressure conduit with the discharge muffler. A relief valve is attached to the discharge muffler upstream of the check valve. If the pressure in the compressor is abnormally high when the check valve closes, the relief valve releases the abnormally high pressure from the discharge muffler. Therefore, if the check valve fails to function, the relief valve prevents the pressure in the compressor from being abnormally high.

    • A variable displacement compressor having a pressurizing passage, which extends through a cylinder block. The pressurizing passage connects a discharge chamber and a crank chamber. A valve is arranged in the pressurizing passage. A drive shaft rotates and produces centrifugal force that causes the valve to open the pressurizing passage. The pressure of the crank chamber is increased when the rotation of the drive shaft is accelerated thereby opening the pressurizing passage with the valve. This moves a swash plate such that its inclination, relative to a plane perpendicular to the drive shaft, decreases. As a result, the compressor shifts from a maximum displacement state to a minimum displacement state, which improves the acceleration performance of an engine connected to the compressor. Furthermore, the displacement of the compressor in the minimum displacement state is 50% of that in the maximum displacement state. This prevents an excessive decrease in the cooling capability of the compressor.

    • A control valve for a variable displacement compressor. The control valve has a valve body for regulating a gas passage. A bellows actuates the valve body in accordance with an operating pressure introduced to a pressure sensing chamber. A solenoid biases the valve body with a force based on the electric current supplied to the solenoid. A cylindrical cap is fitted to a cylindrical portion provided on a housing of the control valve. The bellows is located in the pressure sensing chamber. The axial position of the cap in relation to the cylindrical portion is adjusted such that the bellows is positioned at a specific initial position when a pressure having a predetermined magnitude is introduced to the pressure sensing chamber and when a current having a predetermined value is supplied to the solenoid. The cap is secured to the cylindrical portion by crimping with the bellows positioned at the initial position.

    • A compressor having a cam plate disposed in a crank chamber and mounted on a drive shaft. The cam plate is tiltable between a maximum inclined angle position and a minimum inclined angle position with respect to a plane perpendicular to an axis of the drive shaft according to a differential pressure in the crank chamber and in a cylinder bore. The cam plate varies the stroke of a piston based on an inclination thereof to control the displacement of the compressor. A supply passage connects a discharge chamber with the crank chamber to deliver the gas from the discharge chamber to the crank chamber. The supply passage has an inlet that is open in the discharge chamber. A control valve is disposed midway on the supply passage. The control valve adjusts the amount of the gas introduced into the crank chamber from the discharge chamber through the supply passage to control the pressure in the crank chamber. A filter is disposed at the inlet of the supply passage to filter the oil. The filter captures foreign matter mixed with the oil when the gas containing the oil is introduced into the supply passage from the discharge chamber.
