    • The present invention relates to a first process for producing a 2,2-bis(fluoromethyl)-6-(perfluoroalkyl)-2H-1-benzopyran-4-carboxylic acid. The first process includes the steps of (a) reacting a 2,2-bis(fluoromethyl)-6-(perfluoroalkyl)-2H-1-benzopyran-4-one with a perfluoroalkanesulfonic acid anhydride in the presence of a base, thereby obtaining a perfluoroalkanesulfonic 2,2-bis(fluoromethyl)-6-(perfluoroalkyl)-2H- 1-benzopyran-4-yl ester; and (b) reacting the benzopyranyl ester with carbon monoxide in the presence of a palladium complex compound and a base, thereby obtaining the carboxylic acid. The present invention further relates to a second process for producing a 2-hydroxy-5-(perfluoroalkyl) acetophenone, which can be a raw material for producing the carboxylic acid. The second process includes the steps of (c) reacting a 4-(perfluoroalkyl)alkoxybenzene with acetic anhydride or an acyl halide in the presence of a Lewis acid, thereby obtaining a 2-alkoxy-5-(perfluoroalkyl)acetophenone; and (d) dealkylating the 2-alkoxy-5-(perfluoroalkyl) acetophenone by a dealkylating agent.

    • A method of help-information control for displaying help information on a display unit of an information processing system executing a plurality of application programs. A status management table for storing the executing status of application programs is provided as common to these programs. During execution of a given application program, the contents of the status information table are updated successively in accordance with the executing status. Whenever an operator makes a help request, the contents of the status management table in effect at that point in time are referenced. The table is searched for the help information corresponding to the request. When found and retrieved, the information is displayed. The search is performed using a program identifier, a message identifier, and a help message searching table that includes the position information containing the corresponding help data. Each application program is equipped with a control data part that makes it possible to reference help data of other application programs.

    • The present invention provides a method of measuring a component in blood, by which an amount of the component can be corrected accurately by measuring a hematocrit (Hct) value of the blood with high accuracy and high reliability and also provides a sensor used in the method. The sensor for measuring a component in blood has a first analysis portion and a second analysis portion. The first analysis portion has a first electrode system (11,12) and a reagent layer (14), and the reagent layer (14) has an oxidoreductase that acts on the component and a mediator. In the first analysis portion, the component in the blood is measured by causing a redox reaction of the component with the oxidoreductase in the presence of the mediator and detecting a redox current caused when a voltage is applied by the first electrode (11,12). The second analysis portion has a working electrode and a counter electrode, and a mediator is provided on the counter electrode but not on the working electrode. In the second analysis portion, a Hct value of the blood is measured by supplying the blood to the electrode system, applying a voltage to cause a current to flow, and detecting a value of the current. Using this Hct value, the amount of the component is corrected.
