    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for supporting asynchronous communication and overlapping transmissions in an ad hoc network.SOLUTION: A wireless node determines whether or not a transmission should be requested or scheduled based on control messages received from neighboring nodes. A scheduled transmission is divided into several segments so that a transmitting node can receive and transmit the control messages between segments. A monitoring period is defined after a scheduled transmission period to enable the transmitting node to acquire control information that may otherwise have been transmitted during the scheduled transmission period. Data and control information are transmitted over different frequency division multiplexed channels to enable concurrent transmission of the data and control information.
