    • An item record in an item database contains an item description generated by a seller of an item. A server machine is configured to access the item database, analyze the item description, and extract descriptive information by inferring an attribute and a corresponding attribute value from the item description. The attribute and its attribute value constitute an attribute-value pair. The server machine uses the attribute-value pair to map the item record to a product record stored in a product database. The mapping of the item record to the product record is based on comparing the attribute-value pair of the item record to a reference attribute-value pair in the product record to identify the product record. The mapping is performed upon detection of a match between the attribute-value pairs.

    • Embodiments of a method and system for listing categorization are disclosed. A category structure may be accessed. The category structure may include a plurality of categories for items. A set of training data may be accessed from a plurality of listings from at least one of supply data and/or demand data. The supply data may be generated from seller activity of a plurality of users in a networked system. The demand data may be generated from buyer activity of the plurality of users in the networked system. Each listing may include a category from the category structure. The set of training data may be provided to a categorization application for training. The categorization application may be capable of building listing statistics by applying a classifier to the set of training data and recommending a category from the category structure for a new listing by utilizing the listing statistics.

    • A system receives context data associated with a context and a user. The system then associates the context data to a user identifier and retrieves data associated with the context. The system then filters the data according to the context data to create result data. In another embodiment, the system also receives context data from a plurality of users, where the context data pertains to one or more attributes of a context. The system then using the context data ranks the one or more attributes of the context to create ranked data and generates a user interface based on the ranked data. In yet another embodiment, the system communicates context data associated with a context and a user to a server, and receives result data created by the server filtering data retrieved based on the context data.     • A method and a system for providing recommendations based on branding are disclosed. For example, a brand preference corresponding to a first brand and a first category may be identified based on user activity. A recommendation is provided to the user based on the brand preference. The recommendation may be provided based on a predetermined brand relationship comprising the first brand associated with the first category, a second brand associated with a second category, and a recommendation score between the first and second categories and brands. The recommendation may provided by accessing a relationships database to determine at least one brand relationship of the brand relationships corresponding to the brand preference.

    • In an example embodiment, a system for determining respective reputation values for a users of a network-based community is provided. The respective reputation values may be based on a user attribute associated with the user. The system may comprise a processor-implemented reputation component configured to determine respective reputation values for one or more users of a network-based community. Additionally included is a processor-implemented reporting component configured to receive a communication from the user identifying content as objectionable within the network-based community. The system also includes a processor-implemented evaluation component configured to evaluate the identified content based on the respective reputation values of the user to determine an action to take with respect to the content. Additionally included is a processor-implemented validation component configured to remove identified content from publication based on the respective reputation values transgressing a threshold value.
