    • The charging voltage of a pixel electrode varies when there is a photo-misalignment of the pixel electrode, and such variation degrades the display quality. An array substrate that prevents fluctuation in the charging voltage of a pixel electrode is presented. The array substrate includes a pixel electrode, a gate wiring formed on the pixel electrode, and a data wiring that includes a first data line and a second data line formed two sides of the pixel electrode. A first voltage-maintaining electrode is separated from a first side of the first data line by a first distance, and a second voltage-maintaining electrode is separated from a second side of the first data line by a second distance. Both voltage-maintaining electrodes are electrically connected to the pixel electrode. A thin-film transistor is electrically connected to the gate wiring, the data wiring and the pixel electrode.

    • A display substrate may include a substrate, a first pixel electrode, a first switching element, and a second switching element. The first pixel electrode may be disposed in a first pixel area of the substrate and may include high and low electrodes. Short sides of the first pixel area may be defined by first and second data lines adjacent to one other. A long side of the first pixel area may be defined by a first gate line. The high electrode may be adjacent to the first data line, and the low electrode may be adjacent to the second data line. The first switching element may be electrically connected to the first gate line and the first data line, and may contact the high electrode.     • A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a plurality of data lines each having a plurality of straight line portions and a plurality of curved portions connected to a plurality of the straight line portions; a plurality of gate lines intersecting the data lines; thin film transistors connected to the data lines and the gate lines; and pixel electrodes connected to the thin film transistors. Accordingly, even in a case where driver inversion becomes column inversion, apparent inversion can become dot inversion. As a result, it is possible to eliminate transverse line flicker and to increase a charging rate of pixels. In addition, uniformity of the pixels can be maintained, so that the inversion driving schemes can be applied to a PVA mode. As a result, it is possible to obtain a wide viewing angle and to improve side or lateral visibility.

    • A gate wire including a gate line and a gate electrode is formed on an insulating substrate of a TFT array panel. A semiconductor pattern made of amorphous silicon is formed on the gate insulating layer covering the gate wire. A data wire including a data line, a source electrode, and a drain electrode is formed on the semiconductor pattern or the gate insulating layer covering the gate wire. A part of the semiconductor pattern extends under the data line, and a light blocking member overlapping the semiconductor pattern under the data line is formed using the same layer as the gate wire. The light blocking member is to prevent light incident upon the substrate from a backlight from entering the amorphous silicon layers; therefore, the stripes of different brightness and waterfall phenomenon in which the stripes move up and down can be removed in an LCD using a backlight driven by a rectangular wave of ON/OFF signals outputted from inverter.

    • A liquid crystal display having electrodes on a single substrate. A transparent planar electrode elongated in the transverse direction is formed on the inner surface of a substrate, and an insulating film is deposited thereon. A plurality of linear electrodes, which are elongated in the longitudinal direction and either transparent or opaque, are formed on the insulating film. Potential difference between the planar and the linear electrodes generated by applying voltages to the electrodes yields an electric field. The electric field is symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal central line of the linear electrodes, and has parabolic or semi-elliptical lines of force having a center on a boundary line between the planar and the linear electrodes. The line of force on the planar and the linear electrodes and on the boundary line between the planar and the linear electrodes has the vertical and the horizontal components, and the liquid crystal molecules are re-arranged to have a twist angle and a tilt angle. The polarization of the incident light varies due to the rearrangement of the liquid crystal molecules.
