摘要： In one embodiment, a method includes writing a file into a data partition of a tape medium, writing a pointer of the written file in an index partition and creating a high resolution tape directory (HRTD) including detailed location information of data in a data partition. The method also includes storing the HRTD as part of end of data (EOD) of the index partition in response to a tape cartridge housing the tape medium being unloaded. The storing the HRTD as part of the EOD of the index partition includes requesting movement of the tape medium to the index partition in order to update an index file after changes have occurred to data in the data partition, writing an updated index file into the index partition concurrent to writing an updated HRTD into the EOD of the index partition, and requesting for the tape cartridge to be unloaded.

摘要： An approach for optimized selective file and directory tape mounting based on a Linear Tape File System (LTFS). A selective LTFS mount receives LTFS Index metadata and search inputs for searching for files and directories. The selective LTFS mount parses the LTFS Index metadata into metadata elements to identify file metadata and associated directory metadata, date metadata and file structure metadata. The selective LTFS mount identifies selective files by searching at least one of the file metadata, the directory metadata and the date metadata based on matching the search inputs. The selective LTFS mount responds to identifying the selective files by creating selective file structure results based on combining the selective files, the directory metadata, the date metadata and the file structure metadata, respectively. The selective LTFS mount stores the selective file structure results in mount memory and mounts the selective file structure results, for access.

摘要： The present invention provides a method of partitioning a tape medium dynamically by using a new method of writing data. It enables users to change size of the partitions later and to use all capacity of a tape efficiently. When a tape is divided into partitions, data is written in such a manner that the wraps are written in the partitions of the data band alternately in the forward direction and in the backward direction on the data band from the different sides of the data band toward the inside of the data band (W1, W2, W3 . . . ) and the location (C) at which the wrap (Wm) of the one partition collides with the wrap (Wn) of the other partition is defined as the demarcation (PB) of these partitions (P0,P1).

The one or more pieces of metadata are processed by (i) migrating a first piece of metadata that is determined to be migratable to the other file system and (ii) leaving a second piece of metadata in the one file system, wherein the second piece of metadata is determined to be non-migratable.

The written data is reciprocated from a beginning of the tape to an end of the tape in a longitudinal direction of the tape such that writing of a last data entry of one column ends at a beginning of the two or more wraps.
