    • 1371806 Capacitors; component assemblies H WALKER 27 Nov 1972 [12 Oct 1971] 47372/71 Headings H1M and H1R A method of manufacturing a capacitor comprises winding strips of heat-shrinkable thermoplastic dielectric material, e.g. polypropylene, and electrode foils or coatings on a mandrel to form a roll, withdrawing the mandrel, injecting thermoplastic or thermosetting resin into the bore so formed, and heating the assembly to shrink the dielectric foils. Preferably, as shown, the injection is carried out so as to provide end cap 6 at one end of the bore and retaining boss 27 at the other. One lead 3 may be brought through the bore prior to filling it so that both leads extend from the same end. The capacitor may be enclosed in casing 5, being separated from it by combustion extinguishing material 16, e.g. chlorinated hydrocarbon wax. Closure 8 may be a push fit into casing 5 so that on increase of internal pressure it may move outwardly and cause leads 3, 4 to disconnect from clip terminals 10, 11. Movement of closure 8 may uncover a vent hole 17. Optionally, a resistor or inductor may be located in the bore. In modifications, the leads may be brought out at opposite ends (Fig. 3, not shown), a paper or perforated tube may be placed in the bore before filling it, and the capacitor may be encased by a plastics wrapper or encapsulated, e.g. by dipping. Instead of the movement of closure 8 being harnessed to disconnect the leads, a flexible diaphragm whose periphery is fixed to the casing may be used.
