[Also in Division B8] A lid assembly 18 for use with, e.g. a container 12 of plastics or cardboard to form a dispensing container for e.g. soap powder comprises a lid 20 having an internal annular flange 20a and an opening 30 which is closable by a spring biased plate closure 32 attached to a handle 34, slidable in a groove 35. A spring 40 is connected at one end to a projection 38, Fig. 3, on the handle 34 and at the other end into a recess in the flange 20a. Upon pushing the closure plate 32 inwardly, against the bias of the spring 40, the opening 30 is uncovered. Movement of the spring 40 during this operation facilitates dispensing by agitation of the container's contents. The dispenser may be attached to a wall, e.g. by a flange 22 and bracket 25 or by adhesive. The container 12 may be shaped as a child's toy.

Apparatus for dispensing measured quantities of granular materials comprises means for delivering the material gravitationally from a supply means 4, Figs. 1 and 7, and a reciprocable slide 1 so located below the delivery means that in one position the material is admitted to a fixed measuring chamber 3, in another position the measuring chamber is emptied and in all intermediate positions flow of material from either the supply means or the measuring chamber is prevented. The supply hopper 4 has its outlet aligned with the top of the measuring chamber 3 which has flanges 8 engaging with slides 9 attached to the main body 10 of the apparatus so that the chamber may be readily interchanged; a panel or door may be provided in the body 10 to facilitate removal of the chamber. The slide 1 comprises upper and lower plates and is arranged so that in one extreme position an aperture 2 in the upper plate is aligned with both the outlet of the hopper 4 and the measuring chamber 3 and in the other extreme position an aperture 5 in the lower plate is aligned with the chamber 3 which then allows the material to be dispensed through a shoot 6. The spacing of the apertures 2, 5 is such that at no point during the travel of the slide do they uncover the top or bottom of the chamber 3 simultaneously.
