    • Scissors, in particular hairdresser's scissors, in which the finger loop for the thumb is pivotable in a limited manner is simplified and improved under maintenance of the conventional shape in that the movable finger loop is mounted on at least one pin the axis of which extends obliquely relative to the center line of the scissors. The finger loop may preferably be mounted on two pins.In order to be able to take the finger loop more easily with the thumb, the pivoting angle is limited to about 50.degree., i.e. the most advantageous region in ergonomic aspects, in that a finger loop having a broader wall is mounted in a handle ring on two pins, or the finger loop is mounted at the shorter handle on a pin and at the finger loop there is provided a projection which abuts the edge of the handle. Instead thereof, there may be provided a projection at the handle, on the one hand, and at the finger loop adjacent to the pin, on the other hand, in such a manner that the pivoting angle of the finger loop is limited to 50.degree..

    • Cutting shears or scissors have pivotally connected blades and shank portions extending at an acute angle with respect to the cutting edges of the blades wherein handles of the shears connected to the shank portions lie forward of the pivot connection between the blades in the direction of cut of material to be cut by the shears. The shears handles are configured such that the handle to be grasped by the fingers of the operator's hand is fixed to a blade which has a surface adapted for supporting the shears during use thereof. The other blade is provided with a handle particularly adapted for receiving the thumb wherein rotation of the thumb together with thrust of the forearm in the direction of cut or closing action yields a large mechanical advantage without substantial manual effort. Handle configurations include a generally symmetrical handle having a transverse stirrup for engagement with the thumb and a contoured closed loop type thumb handle which is adapted to engage a large area of the thumb including the joint between the metacarpal and phalange bones.

    • Scissors which may be used with equal ease and efficiency by either a left-handed or right-handed person. The scissors include two generally flat rigid, blade portions which are each sharpened on both edges to provide two sets of cutting edges. The blade portions are pivotally connected to one another and each includes a handle portion on one end. One of the handle portions is adapted to fit the thumb of the user while the other handle portion is larger to permit engagement of two or more fingers of the same hand in the normal fashion of scissors use. The thumb handle is pivotally mounted to its respective blade portion to permit pivotal movement from one selected position at one side of the finger handle as used during right-handed operation to a second selected position at the opposite side of the finger handle for use during left-handed operation. A detent or lock is provided to secure and hold the thumb handle in either of the selected positions.

    • In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, there are provided scissors having cold stamped scissor blade elements which do not include any bend in the shank of either blade element, the difference in level of the respective blade elements relative to one-another being compensated for by having plastic insert rings mounted on each of opposite sides of each blade element''s metal ring support, with the upper blade having its lower plastic insert of greater thickness than its upper plastic ring insert, and with the lower blade having its upper plastic ring insert of greater thickness than its lower ring insert, such that the unitary handle in the assembled state of one blade element is on the same level as the unitary handle in the assembled state of the other blade element in so far as respective upper surfaces extending in a common plane and respective lower surfaces extending in another common plane. By virtue of the utilization of plastic ring inserts of different thicknesses for upper and lower ring inserts for each respective blade element''s support ring, there is avoided the costly operation of bending of one of the shanks of one of the blade elements as well as avoiding any need for a subsequent aligning of the blade element after a prior art bending operation, since because no shank bending is required by the present invention the blade element remains in alignment. Accordingly, the novel construction made possible by a process of lesser steps and cost of production results in high quality scissors at competitively low consumer cost.
