    • A bar stock support comprises a tubular member with resilient means extending radially inwardly from the inner wall of said tubular member toward the major axis of said tubular member to define a generally cylindrical channel having a diameter smaller than at least the largest cross-section dimension of the smallest said bar stock to be supported, so that at least some of said resilient means is deformed by said bar stock. Said resilient means has sufficient resistance when deformed to support said bar stock generally concentrically within said tubular member and to resist movement of said bar stock radially within said bar stock support. In a preferred embodiment, said resilient member comprises a helix of bristles disposed within said tubular member.

    • The device comprises a barrel which is indexed by a multi-spindle lathe at each machining operation. The barrel comprises guiding tubes for the bars to be machined which are in rotation in a fluid delivered between the guiding tube and the bar by pipes connected by tubular shafts to a fluid distributor having inlets connected to different sources of pressure. The feed of the bar is controlled exclusively by a feeding piston under the action of the pressure of the fluid delivered by extension tubes located at the rear of the guiding tubes and maintained in alignment with the latter by sliding rings which ensure the tightness between the tubes. At the time provisioning of a guiding tube with a new bar, the piston is retracted out of the guiding tube into the corresponding extension tube, the sliding ring is shifted on the extension tube and the latter pivots about the corresponding tubular shaft to open the inlet of the barless guiding tube to permit delivery from the side, of a new bar to be machined opposite this inlet. This arrangement leads to a compact construction and facilitates automatization of bar provisioning.

    • A rolling mill laying pipe has a rigid external tube with an entry end for receiving a longitudinally moving mill product and an exit end through which the product is discharged. An intermediate portion of the tube between the entry and exit ends has a three-dimensionally curved configuration. A helical spring is axially received in and is radially confined by the tube. The spring is relatively tightly wound, with an inside diameter appropriately dimensioned to accommodate passage therethrough of the mill product. Retainer elements are provided at the tube ends for axially confining the spring within the tube. At least one of the retainer elements is detachable to permit removal and replacement of the spring.

    • A sound-deadening device for use in a feed tube for bar stock includes a radially resilient sleeve having a relaxed diameter greater than the diameter of said tube so as to be held frictionally within the tube in a preselected position by expanding outwardly against the interior surface of the tube. Telescoped into the sleeve is a generally cylindrical backing having the outer ends of a plurality of generally radial bristles embedded therein. The bristles extend inwardly from the backing and include inner ends defining a central passage through the sleeve. The bristles support bar stock within the feed tube and, during rotation of the stock, resiliently cushion the stock against striking the interior of the tube thereby deadening the noise otherwise caused by rotation of the stock within the tube.

    • Plastic ring-like members are press-fitted over elongated work stock members to be fed into a screw machine for operation thereon by the screw machine. The elongated work stock members with attached plastic ring-like elements are received in stock tubes associated with a screw machine. The ring-like members rotate with the work stock members within the stock tubes and function as sound deadening means preventing rattling and scraping of the work stock members within the stock tubes. Additionally, the ring-like members reduce damage to the work stock members, stock tubes and screw machine.
