摘要： In a magnetic tape cartridge comprising a thin cartridge casing having flat upper and lower surfaces and a single reel which is housed in the cartridge casing for rotation and around which a magnetic tape is wound, island-like or point-like projections are provided at least three places of the lower surfaces of the cartridge casing near the leading edge and the trailing edge of the cartridge casing as viewed in the direction X of insertion of the magnetic tape cartridge in a recording and reproducing apparatus and recesses which are adapted to be engaged with the projections are provided on the upper surface of the cartridge casing so that, when a plurality of the magnetic tape cartridges are stacked, the projections and the recesses of the cartridge casings of magnetic tape cartridges which are just above and below each other are engaged with each other, whereby the magnetic tape cartridges are prevented from being displaced with respect to each other when a plurality of magnetic tape cartridges are stacked and the sliding resistance when the magnetic tape cartridge is inserted into a recording and reproducing apparatus is reduced.

摘要： A magnetic tape cartridge is equipped with a cartridge case in which a single reel with magnetic tape wound on the outer periphery of a reel hub is rotatably housed. The cartridge is further equipped with a locking member, and a plurality of ribs extending in the axial direction and formed in the inner periphery of the reel hub. The locking member is provided within the reel hub so that it is movable between a locking position and an unlocking position in the axial direction of the reel. The locking member locks the reel to restrain rotation of the reel when not being used. A first radial clearance between the locking member and the ribs at the locking position is set to a value smaller than a second radial clearance between the locking member and the ribs at the unlocking position.

The reel-rotation restraining member has a restraining member, an urging member, and an unlocking member. The restraining member has a restraining gear which meshes with a locking tooth portion, and the restraining member is supported by a support portion of the cartridge case. In the magnetic tape cartridge, the following relationship is met: b≦(2×a×c)/d where “a” represents the length of engagement between the restraining member in an unlocked state and the support portion, “b” represents the clearance between the restraining member and the support portion, “c” represents the space between the tooth of the restraining gear and the locking tooth portion, and “d” represents the outside diameter of the restraining gear.

The reel stopper includes a braking member which is movable between a locking position where it is in contact with the reel to restrict rotation of the reel and a releasing position where it is away from the reel to permit rotation of the same, an urging member which urges the braking member toward the locking position, and a releasing member which is rotated integrally with the reel and moves the braking member toward the releasing position in response to a reel chucking action of the reel drive means of a tape drive. The braking member is provided with a braking gear which is adapted to be engaged, to restrict rotation of the reel, with an engagement gear tooth on an engagement projection formed on the reel while the reel is provided with a guide member which centers the braking member with respect to the reel.
