    • An image data correcting device eliminates a back projection image without eliminating an image corresponding to a low-intensity halftone image. An intensity difference detection part detects an intensity difference between first image data corresponding to a part of a predetermined small area and second image data corresponding to the remaining parts of the predetermined small area. A halftone detection part determining whether the first image data corresponds to a halftone image. An intensity change part changes an intensity of the first image data to a predetermined low intensity, when the intensity difference is equal to or smaller than a first predetermined value and the first image data does not correspond to the halftone image and the intensity of the first image data is equal to or smaller than a second predetermined value.

    • An image forming apparatus includes a photoconductor and an image reading device to receive and read a light reflected from an original document carrying image data of an image of the original document and to convert the received light carrying the image data into an analog electrical signal carrying the image data. An analog-to-digital converter converts the analog electrical signal carrying the image data into a digital signal carrying the digital image data and a memory stores the digital image data. An image writing device forms an image according to the digital image data on a surface of the photoconductor with a laser beam modulated according to the digital image data. The image forming apparatus includes a first enlarging/reducing device to change a magnification ratio of the image and is provided upstream of the memory in a direction in which the digital image data is sent. Also included is a second enlarging/reducing device which changes a magnification ratio for the image and is provided downstream of the memory in the direction in which the digital image data is sent. The digital image data processed with the first enlarging/reducing device is stored in the memory and the digital image date reed from the memory is again processed with the second enlarging/reducing device.

    • An image reading device has a photoelectric transducer for scanning an image to read it line by line and converting the resulting optical data to an electric signal. A driver drives the photoelectric transducer in response to a synchronizing signal. An internal period signal generating circuit generates an internal period signal having a predetermined period. A period setting circuit sets the predetermined period of the internal period signal. A synchronization switching circuit selects and outputs either of the internal period signal or an external period signal sent from the outside of the image reading device as the synchronizing signal. Even when an external period signal from an image recorder including a polygon motor or similar external apparatus is not available or when the external apparatus is not operated, the device can surely read a document. When the device is used as a terminal unit of an external apparatus, it can flexibly match itself to the external apparatus with respect to the synchronizing signal.
