    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that suppresses warpage of, especially, a TBA type liquid crystal cell to suppress resulting unevenness in contrast.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal cell and first and second polarizing plates. The liquid crystal cell includes first and second substrates which face each other and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between them and including liquid crystal molecules which are aligned perpendicularly to surfaces of the first and second substrates when no voltage is applied. A pixel electrode and a counter electrode for applying a voltage to the liquid crystal molecules are arranged on only the second substrate. The first polarizing plate has a first polarizer arranged on the first substrate side of the liquid crystal cell via a polarizing plate protection film F2, and the second polarizing plate has a second polarizer arranged on the second substrate side of the liquid crystal cell via a polarizing plate protection film F3. The polarizing plate protection film F3 has a lower moisture vapor permeability at 40°C and 90% RH, based upon JIS Z 0208, than that of the polarizing plate protection film F2.

In the drying treatment, a vapor in which the water content is 0.5 mass% or less is used. The water-soluble solvent having a low boiling point of water is preferably one or two or more selected from isopropyl alcohol, ethanol and acetone.
