    • The invention concerns a printing sleeve made of composite material designed to be mounted on a support cylinder (10) provided with nozzles and internally connected to a pressurised fluid source to be able to generate pressurised fluid flows at the cylinder surface, said sleeve having a diameter smaller than that of the support cylinder. The invention is characterised in that it comprises at least from the centre outwards, a first thin deformable layer (16), a second compressible material layer (22, 22-1) for diameter compensation and for providing an elastic return force, a third layer (24) in the form of an inextensible belt, the installation being carried out so as to partly compress said second layer (22, 22-1), and one or several fourth wedging layers (26) to reach the desired nominal diameter.

    • The invention is directed to a method for producing a novel flexographic printing sleeve (10) which is readily axially mountable on and dismountable from a complementary shaped printing cylinder (22). The method comprises providing an apparatus (112) for receiving a sprayed curable polymeric material (115) and for forming the flexographic printing sleeve (10). Then, the curable polymeric material (115) is sprayed onto the apparatus (112) and the flexographic printing sleeve (10) is formed. The sleeve (10) has a substantially unitary, non-laminated construction which is self-supporting. The cross-sectional inner and outer diameter of the flexographic printing sleeve (10) is expandable by introducing a relatively low pressure fluid between the inner surface (14) of the printing body sleeve and the outer cylindrically shaped wall (24) of the printing cylinder (22).

    • A replaceable sleeve (10) having a working surface is provided which is adapted to be mounted on a carrier (12). The sleeve includes an inner polymeric layer (20), a reinforcing layer (22) overlying the inner layer, an intermediate polymeric layer (24) overlying the reinforcing layer, and an outer polymeric layer (28). The sleeve may include a cushion layer (26) between the intermediate layer and the outer layer. The layers comprising the sleeve are formed around a support and then cured simultaneously in a single step. The resulting sleeve may be used in printing operations or in other applications such as coating, embossing, laminating, calendering and the like.
