    • 704,960. Induction furnaces; alarms. WIGGIN & CO., Ltd., H. Nov. 1, 1951 [Nov. 1, 1950], No. 26692/50. Class 39 (3) An induction furnace has a safety device comprising two sets of conductors 12, 14 incorporated in a flexible screen of heatresisting material mounted in the furnace wall inside the induction coil, the two sets of conductors being normally insulated from one another and from the coil, the conductors being so arranged that molten metal leaking through the wall will, before reaching the coil, form a bridge between a conductor 12 and a conductor 14, thereby closing a circuit to actuate an alarm and preferably cut off current supply to the coil. The conductors comprise parallel vertical wires 12, 14 woven into a flexible screen with asbestos thread 16 and connected alternately to bus bars 17. 18. The screen is insulated from the coil by a ring of mica. When molten metal bridges the wires 12, 14 a circuit is completed through a transformer 20 and the alarm 22 is energized. The circuit includes a choke 24 and condenser 26 so that it is not energized by the H.F. current.

    • The method for the production of rings (20) of uniform thickness from an active brazing alloy by melt spinning the molten alloy comprises the following steps: the alloy is melted in a crucible (3) with a lateral opening (4), the height (8) of which is approximately equal to the thickness of the material of the rings (20); the molten alloy is forced out of the crucible (3) onto the lateral surface (1') of a metal drum (1) with a high thermal conductivity rotating at high peripheral speed at a distance corresponding approximately to the thickness of the rings, being forced out at a radial distance (r) from the centre (M) of the drum corresponding approximately to the diameter of the rings; after about one quarter to three quarters of a revolution of the active brazing alloy which has solidified on the metal drum (1) to give the ring stock it is lifted off from the metal drum (1) and guided past the crucible (3) by a mechanical deflector (5) or a gas stream (62) blown onto it counter to the direction of rotation of the metal drum (1); the annular spiral (7) formed is guided around a lateral, coaxial extension of the metal drum (1) which serves as a winding mandrel (8), is arranged on the side of the crucible (3) and has an end flange (9) and diameter which is somewhat smaller than the inside diameter of the ring; the rings (20) are then cut off from the annular spiral (7).
