    • A process, apparatus, and system are disclosed for inhibiting erroneous control signals due to disruptive electromagnetic signals. In one embodiment, the invention prevents erroneous information writing in a recording device under the effect of background electromagnetic waves. A conductor pattern is formed on a printed wiring board on which wiring constituting a control circuit of a hard disk drive is formed. Background electromagnetic waves are detected by an electromagnetic wave detection circuit. In the case where an electromagnetic wave signal detected by the electromagnetic wave detection circuit exceeds a predetermined power, voltage, or current threshold, a write gate signal is turned off to inhibit a potential write operation.

    • Disclosed herein is a pickup feed mechanism in which the joint and the feed screw can engage with each other in a desirable manner. The joint (23) is fastened at one end to a slide member (21) that holds a pickup. The joint (23) has, at the other end, an engagement part (231) that is shaped like a projection. The engagement part (231) is located between a top cover (32) and the feed screw (24) and engaged with the screw portion (241) of the feed screw (24). The joint (23) also has, as the other end, a projection (232) that protrude away from the engagement part (231). The projection (232) abuts on the top cover (32) before the engagement part (231) disengages from the screw portion (241), when the joint (23) moves away from the screw portion (241) as it receive vibration or an impact. Thus, the engagement part (231) is prevented from coming out of the screw portion (241).

    • A magnetic transfer apparatus is utilized to establish magnetization on the surface of a magnetic disk. A support mechanism supports the magnetic disk in the magnetic transfer apparatus. A magnetizing mechanism is designed to get opposed to the magnetic disk held by the support mechanism. The magnetizing mechanism applies a magnetic field of variable intensity in response to a change of position in the radial direction of the magnetic disk. The magnetic transfer apparatus enables establishment of a magnetic field of an appropriate intensity at any positions in the radial direction of the magnetic disk. Magnetization of a constant intensity can be established over the surface of the magnetic disk irrespective of a position in the radial direction of the magnetic disk. The magnetic transfer apparatus alone serves to establish a servo pattern of a clear magnetization on the magnetic disk.

    • A hard disk drive that has a reaction mass and a transducer that can be used to move and/or sense the acceleration of an actuator arm of the drive. The transducer is coupled to a disk controller that can provide output signals which induce a movement of the reaction mass.
