摘要： A cartridge for a pen including a marking device (1120) such as an ink jet head and a non marking stylus (1156) for contacting the writing surface, the pen being operative to mark a visible path onto the surface, the marking device being electronically controllable to change an attribute of the path such as colour or line thickness. The pen includes a user interface such as buttons or a sliders (1404, 1406, 1408) and a display (1410) whereby a user may modify the attribute. A sensor is capable of sensing images including coded data or colour which can be stored in a memory or transmitted to an external control source. The stylus can slide along its longitudinal axis to activate a switch to power the print head operating integrated circuit and/or open a rotary ink jet head cap. The stylus may include a pressure transducer to measure the force applied by the hand as further security in identifying a signature.

摘要： A device is disclosed for the creation of a digital copy of a written docume nt (13) using a hand-held (17, 18) communication (2) device. The device functio ns as a writing device (12) and as a digital documenter (3). the device determines position sense without reliance on special paper, pads, or attachments to the document. The system provides position sense during writi ng by quantitative comporative analysis of serial images of the surface imperfections of the document. Encryption of data output from the device provides privacy and attachment of the device's unique identifying code to a digital copy of a document created by the device provides for confirmation o f the source. Uses of the device include short text messaging for cell phones, email composition, note taking in business and education, medical records, a nd electronic commerce. The imaging system can also be used to read barcodes on documents, allowing for applications to inventory control. Transmissions of the digital copy of the document can be through a wired or wireless connecti on to external digital devices such as cellular phone, personal digital assistant, netpliance, or computer.

摘要： A writing implement 1 includes a sensor 11 and control circuitry 13 so that when the writing implement is brought into close proximity with the input screen of an electronic device, the input screen being of the type that requires an input stylus, the writing tip 3 of the writing implement 1 is prevented from delivering ink to the input screen. This may be achieved by retracting the writing tip within the body of the writing implement, or by extending a stylus tip 20 beyond the writing tip 3 by the means of preventing ink being delivered to the input screen include a mechanism to disengage a ink reservoir 5 from the writing tip 3 of the writing implement 1 and, in the case of a ball-point pen type writing tip 3, having means such as electromagnets 26 arranged to prevent rotation of an ink delivery ball 22 on actuation of the electromagnets. The writing implement 1 may thus be used both as a conventional writing implement and as an input stylus, with the change of function being effected automatically when the writing implement is brought into proximity with the input screen of the electronic device.
