    • A projection image display device includes, a light source, an image display panel having a number of pixels and a vertical scanning function, an optical system for dividing light from the light source into a plurality of lights of different wave ranges and directing and overlapping the divided plural lights onto an area from different directions, a light-collector for collecting each of the plural divided lights directed onto the area by the optical system into apertures of pixels of the image display panel corresponding to the wave range of the light, a projector for projecting an image displayed on the image display panel, and a color-changer for mutually changing, at every vertical scanning of the image display panel, the directions in which the optical system directs the plural divided lights of the different wave ranges, so as to mutually change the wave ranges of light directed to the pixels of the image display panel sequentially. The image display panel displays an image with each of the pixels displaying a color of the wave range of light directed to the pixel at every change by the color-changer.

    • In a color liquid crystal projection display in which three differently-colored illuminating beams (R,G,B) are incident from mutually different directions on an LC panel (20) having an array of display elements (40) with a microlens array (21) at the input side of the panel comprising microlens elements (42) overlying groups of display elements that direct light from the beams through respective sets of display elements, and a projection lens (30) projects the output beams from the panel onto a screen (31), the beam geometries are selected such that at a position spaced from the output side of the panel the three output beams pass respectively through substantially separate areas and filter means (50) are disposed at that position to remove unwanted color stray light at each area thus improving color purity. Each microlens element of the array directs light from one color beam onto one display element and light from the other two beams onto respective display elements which are not immediately adjacent that one display element.

    • Provided is a liquid crystal display device wherein transmitted illumination is uniformly performed to a liquid crystal display panel and display light (L) has a desired chromaticity. An illuminating means (19) is provided with a first light emitting element (20) which emits first light (L1) having a first color, and a second light emitting element (21) which emits second light (L2) having a second color. A liquid crystal display panel (18) is illuminated by means of illuminating light (L3) which includes the first light (L1) and the second light (L2). A polarization member (27) reflects the illuminating light (L3). A detecting means (28) detects illuminating light (L4) which has passed through the polarization member (27), and outputs chromaticity data. Based on the chromaticity data, a control means (56) adjusts power to be supplied to the first light emitting element (20) and/or the second light emitting element (21). The polarization member (27) is composed of a wire grid polarization plate.

    • A light source device capable of realizing a color display having the high light-use efficiency with a simple configuration is provided. Provided is a light source device including a prism sheet disposed to face a plane to be irradiated, and to bend an incident light to a direction substantially orthogonal to an incident direction; a light source section separately emitting a plurality of color lights having wavelength regions different from each other so that each of the color lights enters into the prism sheet at a small angle with respect to an extending direction of the prism sheet; and a light source drive means for driving the light source section so that each of the color lights periodically scans the plane to be irradiated so as to perform the line-sequential irradiation operation.
