    • A method for dispersing an additive from an additive cartridge disposed in a housing of an oil filter is provided herein, the method includes using stagnation pressure to disperse the additive from the additive cartridge; and regulating a flow rate of the additive from the additive cartridge by restricting an inlet opening of an outlet tube of the additive cartridge. Also provide herein is an additive cartridge for dispersing an additive within a filter housing, the additive cartridge having a housing defining a receiving area for receipt of the additive; a fluid inlet path through a wall of the housing, the fluid inlet path providing a means for increasing a pressure within the receiving area, the fluid inlet path having an inlet opening disposed adjacent to an outer wall portion of the housing; and a fluid outlet path through the wall of the housing, the fluid outlet path providing a means for dispersing the additive from the receiving area when the pressure within the receiving area exceeds a predetermined value, the fluid outlet path having an outlet opening disposed adjacent to the outer wall portion of the housing, the outlet opening being covered by a shroud configured to deflect fluid flowing in a first direction away from the outlet opening and the inlet opening of the fluid inlet path is positioned to receive fluid flowing in the first direction; and fluid flow of the additive through the fluid outlet path is controlled by varying an inlet opening of the fluid outlet path.

    • A chemical filter for use within an internal combustion engine lubrication system. The chemical filter employs filtration media including particles having internal pores and interstitial pores formed between adjacent particles. The internal pores and the interstitial pores collectively define filtration media pores, and a strong base material is associated with at least some of the internal pores. The filtration media has a surface area greater than or equal to 25 m2/gm that is derived from filtration media pores that are large enough to receive a combustion acid-weak base complex contained within oil flowing through the chemical filter. This enables an ion-exchange process to occur that immobilizes the combustion acids and regenerates the weak base, so as to extend the time intervals between oil drains, among other benefits.

    • An additive dispensing device is provided. The additive dispensing device includes a reservoir configured to contain a supply of an additive. The reservoir is in fluid communication with a dispensing chamber of a metering valve device by a first one-way valve. The metering valve device is configured to dispense a portion of the additive from the dispensing chamber into a housing by a second one-way valve. The additive dispensing device further includes a thermal expanding member disposed in the dispensing chamber. The thermal expanding member is configured to expand and contract between expanded and contracted positions, respectively, in response to temperature. The thermal expanding member decreases a pressure in the dispensing chamber as the thermal expanding member moves toward the contracted position, such that additive is drawn from the reservoir into the dispensing chamber through the first one-way valve. The thermal expanding member increases the pressure in the dispensing chamber as the thermal expanding member moves toward the expanded position, such that additive previously drawn from the reservoir chamber into the dispensing chamber is dispensed through the second one-way valve.

    • In one aspect a method for lubricating a tribosystem is provided that may include providing a new tribosystem including at least two solid surfaces that interact during operation of the tribosystem and providing lubrication oil for lubricating the tribosystem. The method may further include operating the tribosystem while lubricating the tribosystem with the lubrication oil during an initial period and supplying anti-wear additives to the lubrication oil at the end of the initial period. In another aspect a lubrication assembly for containing lubrication oil may be provided. The lubrication assembly may include an anti-wear additive storage and a releaser that is configured for releasing anti-wear additive from the anti-wear additive storage into the lubrication oil after an initial period of operation.
