The memory member includes a base; a storing element, provided on the base, for storing information; and a memory antenna, provided in the base, for sending the information stored in the storing element to a main assembly antenna provided in a main assembly of the apparatus. A sending member, provided in the base, sends information stored in the storing element to the memory antenna and an outer casing member covers the base provided with the storing element, the sending member and the memory antenna. When the memory unit is mounted to the main assembly of apparatus, the unit frame is contacted to a main assembly antenna cover provided in the main assembly of the apparatus.

    • A developing device is detachably mountable to the main body of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus. The device is for developing an electrostatic latent image on an electrophotographic photosensitive member and includes a developing member for developing the electrostatic latent image formed on the electrophotographic photosensitive member, a developer container containing therein a developer to be used to effect the development of the electrostatic latent image by the developing member, a developing frame for supporting the developing member, a welding rib provided along the lengthwise direction of the developing frame to connect the developer container and the developing frame together by-ultrasonic welding, and a plurality of reinforcing members provided on the back of that surface of the developing frame on which the welding rib is provided, along the lengthwise direction of the welding rib, to increase the strength of the developing frame. The welding rib provided on the developing frame is disposed so as to be located between the plurality of reinforcing members as viewed from a direction intersecting with the surface and the back, and the developer container and the developing frame are connected together by the ultrasonic welding.

The grounding, developing bias and charging bias contacts are disposed adjacent a longitudinal end of the drum opposite from the cartridge coupling member. The developing bias and charging bias contacts are each disposed on a side of the process cartridge that extends in a longitudinal direction, to one and the other side of the drum. The grounding contact is substantially coaxial with the drum.

    • An electrophotographic image forming apparatus for forming an image on a recording material includes an electrophotographic photosensitive drum, a charger for charging the photosensitive drum, a developer for developing a latent image formed on the photosensitive drum into a toner image, a transferrer for transferring the toner image onto the recording material, a fixer for fixing the toner image on the recording material, a motor, a main assembly side gear for receiving a driving force from the motor, and a hole formed substantially at a center of the gear. The hole has a polygonal cross-section. The apparatus also includes a projection provided at a longitudinal end of the photosensitive drum. When the main assembly side gear rotates with the hole and projection engaged with each other, a rotational driving force is transmitted from the gear to the photosensitive drum through the hole and the projection with the projection is pulled into the hole. An end portion of a shaft having the projection and a surface defining the hole contact each other so that the process cartridge is positioned in place in a longitudinal direction of the photosensitive drum relative to the main assembly. The apparatus also includes a mover for imparting relative movement between the hole and the photosensitive drum to engage the projection with the hole.

    • A process cartridge detachably mountable to a main assembly of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus includes a motor, a main assembly side gear for receiving a driving force from the motor and a main assembly recess defined by a twisted surface. The main assembly recess is substantially coaxial with the gear, and a main assembly projection provided in the main assembly and substantially coaxial with the gear. The process cartridge includes an electrophotographic photosensitive drum; a process device actable on the photosensitive drum; and a twisted cartridge projection engageable with the twisted surfaces. The projection is provided at a longitudinal end of the photosensitive drum. The cartridge also includes a cartridge recess provided at a free end of the cartridge projection and substantially coaxial with the cartridge projection. When the process cartridge is mounted to the main assembly, the main assembly projection enters the cartridge recess. When the main assembly side gear rotates with the main assembly recess and cartridge projection engaged with each other, a rotational driving force is transmitted from the gear to the photosensitive drum through engagement between the main assembly recess and the cartridge projection.

    • Disclosed are a lactone-modified polyvinyl alcohol and a process for the preparation thereof, a polymer composition, a permanently anti-electrostatic resin composition, a lactone-modified resin having hydroxyl groups, and a process for the preparation thereof. The lactone-modified polyvinyl alcohol can be used in wide fields owing to the capability of freely adjusting the water solubility, such as water-soluble, gradually water-soluble, low water-soluble, and water-insoluble by a degree modified by lactone compounds, and owing to possessing properties both of PVA and lactones. Furthermore, the lactone-modified polyvinyl alcohol has properties such as being plasticizers or softening agents, and as a result, there can be provided a polymer composition having excellent properties by mixing with a hydrophilic polymer or polar polymer. Still further, a blend resin composition in which a variety of resins are blended with the lactone-modified polyvinyl alcohol has an excellent permanently-anti-electrostatic property, and the resin composition having a permanently-anti-electrostatic property can be preferably employed as a variety of molded articles such as parts for electric appliances, textiles, films, etc.
