摘要： A golf ball is provided having a controlled weight distribution about a designated spin axis. The golf ball includes a core defining one or more high density regions interiorly disposed along a common plane and centered about the horizontal spin axis of the ball. As a result of the controlled weight distribution, the resulting ball significantly reduces hooks and slices. A method of manufacturing and/or utilizing the present golf ball is also provided.

摘要： The present invention is directed to improved polybutadiene compositions suitable for use in molded golf ball core construction. The improved polyubutadiene compositions are composed of polypropylene powder resins which have the effect of increasing the hardness of the resulting molded cores without increasing the weight upon curing, thereby allowing for a reduction in the amount of crosslinking agents utilised and increasing the amount of fillers incorporated therein. The addition of the polypropylene powder resins to the core compositions lowers the cost of the molded core, while maintaining the proper weight and compression. The present invention is also directed to golf balls produced utilizing the improved core compositions. Furthermore, the invention is directed to a method for reducing the amount of crosslinking agents utilized to formulate a core composition through the incorporation of polypropylene powder resins. In addition, a method for decreasing the amount of crosslinking agents and increasing the amount of mineral fillers included in a core composition through the incorporation of polypropylene powder resins is also disclosed.

The game ball has a non-ionomeric cover which has been crosslinked by incorporating a dialkyl peroxide in the polymer mix prior to molding. The game ball cover is superior in at least one of cut resistance and scuff resistance to a conventional cover that does not have covalent crosslinks but is otherwise substantially identical in composition. The game ball cover of the invention is particularly useful for improving the durability of golf balls to be struck with sharp-grooved clubs. The peroxide may be omitted and the cover crosslinked using post formation irradiation.

摘要： A dimpled configuration for a golf ball wherein, in the first embodiment, the dimples are arranged in a geometrical lattice configuration so as to form a perfect icosahedral pattern which inlcudes twenty indentical triangles with a predetermined number of dimples lying along the lines forming the lattice. These dimples are a first diameter, while the dimples within the lattices are of a second diameter greater than the first diameter. In the second embodiment, the five adjacent triangles having common polar vertices are retained on either side of the equatorial line of the ball. Five smaller triangles on either side of the equator include vertices common with each adjacent set of the five triangles, with the legs opposite such vertices being substantially parallel with but terminating short of the equatorial line of the ball. The legs parallel with the equator extend about the ball so as to form five trapezoids which have common sides with the alternate with the five small triangles. In the preferred embodiment, the edge radius of the dimples is greater than the standard edge radius.

The golf ball cores are from polybutadiene rubber compositions having a high Mooney viscosity and/or a high molecular weight and a low dispersity is disclosed. The apparatus includes an internal mixer that compounds a batch of golf ball core stock. A sheeter forms sheets of golf ball core stock and has a sheeter inlet proximate the mixer outlet and a sheeter outlet. A preform shaper forms golf ball core preforms from the sheets of golf ball core stock.
