    • A solid polymer fuel cell that utilizes liquid fuel such as methanol should prevent generated water from residing in a ventilation port close to an anode, to thereby suppress degradation of a MEA. The fuel cell includes an anode, an anode-side collecting electrode, a sealing material located along a perimeter of a solid polymer electrolytic membrane and interleaved between the electrolytic membrane and the anode-side collecting electrode, and a discharging device that discharges a product generated through electric reaction on the anode. The sealing material is provided in a frame-shape around the anode. The discharging device is a ventilation port formed on the sealing material, and a water repellent material is provided at least one of inside the ventilation port and between the ventilation port and the anode.

    • A retrieval device (22) retrieves associated documents on the basis of a keyword contained in a question serving as a retrieval request in question form from a user. The retrieval device (22) extracts descriptions associated with the keyword and contained in the retrieved documents as first summaries. A summary extraction unit (232) extracts descriptions corresponding to answers matching the question type of the question determined by a question type determination unit (231) as second summaries from original-document data which forms documents indicated by the document retrieval results. The original-document data is included in original-document data stored in an original-document database and forming each document as a retrieval target. An interface (21) displays the document retrieval results and the list of the extracted second summaries on a display device. The document retrieval results include the list of the extracted first summaries.

    • A device for detecting a vehicle comprises an image capturing an image of a view in front of the own vehicle. The apparatus comprises first and second determining means, distance detecting means, and storing means. Of these, in the storing means, a relationship between distances to light sources of vehicles and a range of levels of a signal to be imaged at light sources is previously stored. The first determining means determines a particular area in data of the captured image, the particular area being defined by pixels having signal levels higher than a predetermined level. The distance detecting means detects a distance from the image sensor to a position at which the particular area is imaged. The second determining means determines whether or not the particular area is the light source, by referring the detected distance and a signal intensity of the determined particular area to the relationship.
