    • A method and apparatus for launching a calibrator process by which the user is guided through the process of calibrating the conditions used by a particular print job is provided. Techniques are provided which calculate which print conditions will be used by the particular print job, which guarantees that the user is calibrating the correct conditions to get the best color quality for the particular job. The method and apparatus further provides techniques that allow the user to specify the conditions under which a calibration is considered expired in terms of time since the last calibration and the number of prints since the last calibration The method and apparatus further provides techniques for when the user encounters a new media type or print condition, the system can measure such and inform the user whether to create a new profile and/or new calibration set to get the optimal color quality.

    • A web-based application for an insurance carrier that combines national account information and detailed insurance policy information with catastrophe modeling technology. As an event occurs, the modeling technology determines a projected damage area that the event will cause. The insurance carrier can cross-reference that information with its account and policy information. In a short time, the insurance carrier can generate the following catastrophe exposure data: (1) summary reports indicating the projected number of damaged locations for each account; (2) maps and graphs of each account's affected locations that provide a visual image of the epicenter and the concentration of the losses; and (3) tables with detailed property location information. After receiving this data, the insurance carrier can secure the services of independent adjusters and assign other resources according to the scope and magnitude of the projected loss.

    • Method of melting a metallic material such as a metal or or alloy involves the steps of disposing the metal or alloy in a crucible or other melting vessel having an induction coil disposed about an upstanding side wall of the vessel. The side wall comprises graphite and has a side wall thickness not exceeding about 0.50 inch. The induction coil is energized to generate an electromagnetic field effective to heat and melt the metal or alloy in the crucible and having a low enough frequency that the side wall is so transparent (does not suscept) to the electromagnetic field of the induction coil that a solid skull forms on the side wall to separate the melted metal or alloy from the side wall of the crucible.
