    • In a mailboxing system receiving and stacking plural print jobs of plural sheets, of differing sheet thicknesses, for plural different recipients in plural print job storage mailbox bins having a preset maximum sheet stacking capacity, with a stapler system for selectively stapling together the print jobs, the mailboxing system having a sheet distribution system controlled by a control system for automatically variably directing and stacking into selected mailbox bins the respective print jobs of different recipients, with a bin stacking level estimation system for indicating to the control system that the height of the stack in the mailbox bin will reach a preset stacking level, the bin stacking level estimation system is a point count stack height estimation correction system including a counting system for accumulating a point count of the number of sheets being directed by the sheet distribution system to the selected mailbox bin, a sheet thickness factor input system for inputting sheet thicknesses point count correction factors to the point count to correct for the differing sheet thicknesses of the job sheets being so directed, and a staple buildup factor input system for inputting staple buildup point count correction factors to the point count to correct for the number of stapled sets of job sheets being so directed. The point count stack height estimation correction system automatically corrects the point count with the sheet thicknesses and the staple buildup correction factors to more accurately estimate the stack height of the total stack of sheets to be stacked in the selected mailbox bin.

    • In a sheet stacking and job separating system for a reproduction apparatus, in which, repeatedly, plural printed sheets are compiled as a print job set by being tamped into a squared stack in a compiler with a tamper system, and the compiled stack is ejected from the compiler onto an output stacking tray holding plural stacks in a common stack, and wherein respective print job stacks are stacked offset from one another in the output tray: a dual mode print job set stack tamper and job sets offsetting system in a first mode tamps the print job set in the compiler while retaining a defined stacking position, and in a second mode shifts selected print job sets out of the defined stacking position into an offset position to provide the offset in the output tray, preferably by moving both of the tampers in the same direction with the same drive motor.

    • A modular, flexibly adaptable "mailboxing" unit and system for both sequentially processing and separating, into a superposed array of plural separate mailbox print job sheet collection bins or trays, the sheet outputs of various users of various printers (including facsimile receivers, copiers or combination units). The mailbox module has left and right side printer inputs and vertical sheet transport input paths therefrom to at least one vertically modular replaceable sub-module for operating sequentially on sheets in the mailbox module sheet path prior to the separating and feeding of sheets into the mailboxes. The replaceable sub-module comprises at least one of a sheet rotator, a sheet inserter, a sheet inverter, a sheet folder, or a sheet hole punch. The mailbox module then provides a third vertical sheet transport path from the replaceable sub-module past the array of mailboxes to provide a bin selection path for the sub-module processed sheets, with optional compiling and finishing.

    • A finishing apparatus for receiving and attaching sets of sheet material in succession. A movable bin array including plurality of bins are provided for receiving the sheet in each individual bin. Rollers are provided for transporting a copy sheet to the finishing apparatus to one of each individual bin. Registration of the sheet is accomplished by the uphill nature of the each individual bin in the bin array sloping towards a registering portion of a gate assembly, and the action of a tamper mechanism registers the sheets. A stapling means having a cam that is radially urged moves in a plane substantially parallel to the orientation of the the bin array. The action of the cam drives the stapler means into a notched area of each individual bin positioned thereat so that registered sheet sets therein may be stapled in the notched area. The action of the stapler means also opens the gate on an adjacent bin so that a retaining gate on each individual bin are moved to an output of the way position enabling sheet sets therein to slide off each individual bin onto a guide support and into the output tray.

    • In a copier or printer producing a sequential stream of sheets with limited time therebetween, and with compiling and finishing of those output sheets on-line while subsequent sheets are being printed, a non-slip sheet feeder normally feeding copy sheets downstream to the compiler is selectably intermittently temporarily stopped holding the lead edge area of the first copy sheet for the next set to be finished so that continued feeding of the trail end of the same sheet by a relatively closely spaced upstream feeder buckles that sheet into a buckle chamber assisted by a buckle inducing arcuate baffle extending from the other side of the sheet path. The next printed sheet is fed normally while the buckled first sheet is positively held out of its way. When the second sheet reaches the downstream feeder, it restarts to positively feed both sheets downstream to the compiler, together, but overlapped by a preset amount for registration stacking. A substantial increase is provided in the time for the preceding copy sheets to be operated on in the compiler. A plural sheet collection point may also be provided by this sheet buffering system.

    • A sheet folding apparatus is disclosed which includes an inlet for receiving a sheet material from outside of the sheet folding apparatus, an outlet for discharging the sheet material to outside of the sheet folding apparatus, and a folding mechanism within the apparatus for placing one or more folds in the sheet material. The folding mechanism includes a fold position controlling chamber having first and second ends and including at least one fold plate stop spaced from the first end for blocking the fold position controlling chamber, first and second fold producing rollers contacting each other at peripheral surfaces thereof and located adjacent the first end of the fold position controlling chamber for withdrawing a sheet from the fold position controlling chamber and placing a fold therein and a recirculation passage extending around the periphery of one of the first and second fold producing rollers so that a sheet can be conveyed around the outer periphery thereof and be inserted back into the fold position controlling chamber after being withdrawn from the fold position controlling chamber by the first and second fold producing rollers. The once-folded sheet can then be directed to the outlet or back through the first and second fold producing rollers to place a second fold therein. This structure permits one or more folds to be placed in sheet material while requiring only a single fold position controlling chamber and one pair of fold producing rollers.
