    • PURPOSE: A binary signal detection device using a nonlinear converter is provided to compensate for a signal inputted to a Viterbi decoder, and to use the Viterbi decoder where the compensated signal and an optimized level are detected, thereby more exactly detecting a binary signal. CONSTITUTION: A nonlinear converter(13) converts an input signal so as to have a value within a predetermined range. A level detector(17) receives the converted signal from the nonlinear converter(13), detects an optimum level value, and outputs the detected optimum level value. A Viterbi decoder(15) decodes the converted signal inputted from the nonlinear converter(13) according to the optimum level value inputted from the level detector(17), and detects a binary signal.

    • An equalizer and an equalizing method of optical recording/reproducing apparatus capable of enhancing equalizing performance and equalizing speed are disclosed.
