    • ILLUMINATED ARTICLE AND WATERPROOF ILLUMINATED HARNESS An illuminated article in the form of a garment or article of wearing apparel includes an electrically conductive harness mounted at predetermined locations on the outer surface of the garment. The harness includes a housing which waterproofingly encloses an illumination device, such as a light emitting diode. A pair of electrical conductors mounted in an elongated strip are connectable to the leads of the light emitting diodes. An electrical power source including a battery and an on/off switch is mounted in a waterproof housing and receives one end of the electrical conductors to connect the illumination devices to the battery for selectively illuminating the illumination devices. A plurality of harnesses may be mounted on the article and interconnected by a waterproof connector which connects the electrical conductors in each harness together. In a preferred embodiment of the harness, each light emitting diode and attached portions of the electrical conductors are inserted into e mold which then has a housing molded therearound to form a watertight, corrosion-free enclosure about each light emitting diode. 28

    • A vehicle occupant restraint belt buckle (24) for detachably securing a keeper (26) to secure a belt portion (22) is disclosed as including a hollow housing (32) including a translucent portion (38) and receiving a latch member (40) that is moved between latched and unlatched positions to detachably secure the keeper. An electrically energized light source (52) is mounted within the housing (32) to provide illumination through the translucent portion (38). Electrical connectors (64, 65) within the housing (32) connect the light source (52) to a power supply so as to thereby energize the light source and provide illumination through the translucent portion (38). In one construction, the translucent portion (38) comprises a plastic button (68) that operates the latch member and, in another construction, the translucent portion (38) is spaced from the button that controls the latch member and is embodied either by an extremity of the light source or a separate component. A switch (74) is also preferably incorporated into the buckle and controls light source energization in response to the secured or detached condition of the keeper (26) by the latch member (40). Different embodiments of the restraint belt buckle include a single light source (52) and a pair of light sources (52, 54) which may be embodied by electrical bulbs, light emitting diodes that each emit light of a single color, or a bipolar light emittting diode that selectively and alternately emits light of two different colors.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fit an electric light to a hand securely to prevent its slipping and to relax the shock of drop to prevent a failure even if it is accidentally dropped by forming a band-like elastic band, which is detachably wound around a cylindrical body part. SOLUTION: An elastic band 3 is made of soft rubber such as polyester, formed into a sheet-like band form, and can be wound around a body part 1. After it is wound, its one end can detachably fixed by a button 31. The length of the elastic band 3 is smaller than that of the body part 1, so that the elastic band 3 can be wound without covering a power switch 13 by winding it from the rear end of the body part 1. Because the elastic band 3 is made of soft rubber, when it is held by a hand, friction force between the palm and it is so large that it is hardly slipped from the hand. In addition, a shoulder belt 32 is preferably attached to the elastic band 3 and the shoulder belt 32 is preferably made of a material such as polypropylene which can prevent its slip when suspended from the shoulder.
