    • An impact press of the type including a tool holder slidably mounted in a slide, a hammer sliding in the slide, and a spring resiliently acting between the hammer and the slide to urge the hammer toward the tool holder. An escapement device disengages the spring from the hammer in a determined position of the stroke. This escapement device includes two connecting rods articulated to each other about an axle at one end and the other end of which is articulated about axles respectively to the hammer and to the tool holder. A return spring urges the connecting rods back to an aligned position in which the articulation axles are in alignment along a straight line parallel to the path of the hammer. One of the connecting rods includes a ramp with which cooperates a pin rigidly connected to the slide such that when the ramp contacts the pin, the connecting rods are deflected from alignment with each other. An abutment rigidly connected to the press limits the return backward motion of the tool holder.

    • A rail forger for reforming worn rails is disclosed. The forger includes a mobile frame capable of travel along the railway and a pair of forging shoes pivotally suspended from the frame. The forging shoes are adapted to travel along either side of the rail and are shaped to conform to the desired rail profile. By periodically and simultaneously applying a force to each forging shoe, the rail is impact forged and returned to its desired profile. A resonant system comprising a pair of horizontally suspended resonant beams is excited by a pair of eccentric weights at the upper ends of the beams to drive the associated forging shoes at the lower ends of the beams against the rail.

    • This invention relates to improved apparatus and process for manufacture of tunnel modules and tunnel sections used to build underwater tunnel tubes. A collapsible fixture is used to roll up a steel plate into a cylindrical shell. Cables wrapped around channels on the outer ends of fixtures are used to roll up the fixture along the plate. After the fixture with the shell on it is placed on pedestals for further fabrication, cables placed in the channels are used to rotate the shells. After the fixture is collapsed within the shell, it is raised up by pedestal lifting mechanisms, and wheels provided on the fixture are lowered into place to aid in removal of the fixture from the shell, and onto a roll-out table. Roller mechanisms are also used to aid in the removal of the fixture from the shell. The roll-out table is situated between two sets of pedestals and used in the removal of fixtures from single modules or sets of modules. A common winch is utilized to pull out the fixture onto the table from each shell module.
