    • A high-speed milling cutter (1) is provided that includes a hub (9) rotatable about an axis, a plurality of radially extending arms (15a-f), and a plurality of cutting inserts (21), each of which is connected to a distal portion (19) of one of the arms. The arms are tapered with respect to both the horizontal and vertical planes in such a manner that centrifugally induced tensile stresses are substantially equal at all points between the proximal and distal ends. The cross-sectional area of each arm increases at each point radially inwardly so that the ratio of tensile strength to the amount of centrifugal force generated by the cumulative, peripheral mass of the arm at that point remains substantially constant throughout the length of the arm.

    • A cutting tool (100) has a plurality of cutting portions (108) located along a cutter peripheral surface (106), alternating between cutter side surfaces (104), with a cutting insert (112) retained in each cutting portion (108). At least one cutting portion (108) has a main recess (114), formed in the cutter side surface (104) opposite to the cutter side surface in which the respective cutting insert (112) is located. The main recess (114) has a recess arcuate surface (116) and a recess bearing surface (118). The cutting portion (108) also has a cam member (124) with a cam arcuate surface (126) and a cam bearing surface (128), located on different sides of a cam pivot axis (P). The cam member (124) is located within the main recess (114), the cam arcuate surface (126) being adjacent the recess arcuate surface (116) and the cam bearing surface (128) being adjacent the recess bearing surface (118). The cutting portion (108) is moveable between a neutral position (fig. 5) and an adjusted position (fig. 6), in which the axial position of the cutting insert (112) is adjusted when the cam member (124) rotates about the cam pivot axis (P).
