    • A safety air gap system for an exemplary high volume evacuator having a water-sealed pump to provide suction thereto and including a gray water discharge from the pump to a drain, the system including a closed housing adapted to be mounted at a higher level than the evacuator, a reservoir for fresh water in the housing terminating a predetermined distance below the top, a coaxial pair of inner and outer tubes extending upward from the bottom of the reservoir and terminating above the top of the reservoir, the lower end of the inner tube receiving municipal water for discharge at the top to the outer tube which discharges the water at the lower end to the reservoir as controlled by a float-operated valve between the upper ends of the tubes, the housing having in one sidewall an outlet port connectable to a drain at a level below the top of the reservoir to prevent accidental filling of the housing with water in the event of a malfunction of the system, and an air gap opening positioned in a sidewall of the housing at a level above the outlet opening but no higher than the top of the reservoir to permit any water overflowing from the reservoir to discharge therethrough without creating suction in the event of a stoppage of the outlet opening to a drain.

    • A toilet holding tank water inlet valve of the type utilizing a flexible valve element formed as a portion of a pressure chamber and having a control stem associated with the pressure chamber and a pivot arm associated with the control stem is improved by molding a portion of the pressure chamber to tightly grip the control stem and attaching a vertical member to the pivot arm with a float which can move along the vertical member. An upper float stop is positioned near the uppermost end of the member and a lower float stop is positioned near the lowermost end of the member. As the float moves in response to movement of the water level within the holding tank, the float contacts the upper float stop as the tank is being filled and engages with this stop transferring the buoyant force exerted against the float by the water to the member which in turn moves the pivot arm re-positioning the control stem to effect a seal of a portion of the pressure chamber against a valve seat to inhibit further water influx into the holding tank. As the float moves downwardly with respect to the member as water is being drawn from the tank, the float contacts the lower stop and is momentarily suspended by it as the water level recedes below it. Then, the combined weights of the float, the member and the stops are transferred to the pivot arm which in turn are transferred to the control stem moving the control stem in the pressure chamber allowing the flexible valve element to unseat itself from a valve seat allowing water into the holding tank.

    • An end of an inlet tube communicates through a tank wall with a water supply and an inner end of the inlet tube communicates through a float controlled valve with a generally vertically downwardly extending outlet tube. Thus, the tank water level through the float controls closing and opening of the valve admitting water through the inlet tube, through the valve and down the outlet tube flowing into the tank from the outlet tube lower end. The outlet tube is selectively vertically adjustable to adapt to various depths of tank by being formed of telescoped parts normally retaining a determined telescoping by a projection of one part being radially interengaged in a groove of the other part. Depending on the particular construction, the tube part telescoping may be selectively varied by either relative rotation between the parts or by disengaging and reengaging the interengagement between the parts. Through a slot and lock collar arrangement, the tube parts may be totally telescopically separated.

    • A ballcock assembly in which a sheath extends upwardly through the fluid within a reservoir tank to support a valve mechanism above the normal level to which fluid will rise in the reservoir tank. An inlet tube which connects a fluid supply line to the valve mechanism extends through the sheath and is wholly isolated from the fluid within the reservoir tank by the sheath. The outermost lateral dimension of the inlet tube and the innermost lateral dimension of the sheath are such that the inlet tube is completely circumscribed by an air space comprising a passageway that extends the full axial extent of the inlet tube between its effective connection to the valve mechanism and its effective connection to a fluid supply line. The passageway is required to communicate with atmosphere at a level beneath the fluid in the reservoir tank and may also communicate with atmosphere at a level above the normal level to which fluid will rise within the reservoir tank.
