    • An adapter for coupling a pressure transmitter to a vessel or tank carrying a liquid therein that establishes a hydrostatic pressure at a flanged opening has a planar surface that includes two spaced apart pressure ports that are aligned with and will mate with the isolator input ports of a differential pressure transmitter. The pressure ports are arranged so that the transmitter can be mounted very close to a side wall of the vessel or tank, with the hydrostatic pressure sensing port positioned closest to the vessel to eliminate errors caused by tilting of the adapter and transmitter from bulges that may occur in the vessel or tank side wall. Additionally, the adapter planar surface mounts the transmitter facing sideways, where the transmitter can be quite easily serviced, replaced, or examined.

    • A system for controlling the water level in a boiler, including a liquid level adjuster, conduits connecting the liquid level adjuster to the boiler through housings mounted on the boiler and membranes positioned between the boiler and the conduits to transmit fluid pressure from the boiler to the liquid level adjuster while preventing fluid communication between the boiler and the liquid level control system. Valved bypass ducts extend from the housings to the top of the boiler so that expansion of the water in the liquid level control system due to the firing of the boiler is accommodated by overflow into the top of the boiler rather than by rupture of the membranes. Graduated water columns are provided to permit calibration of the liquid level adjuster, and valves are included in the liquid level control system adjacent to the liquid level adjuster so that the liquid level adjuster may be isolated from the rest of the system and checked for proper operation at any time.

    • A differential-pressure transmitter adapted to produce a signal proportional to a process variable such as flow rate in a line conducting fluid or the level of liquid in a tank, the process fluid being at a temperature markedly at variance with ambient temperature. The transmitter is constituted by high and low pressure sensors which are coupled to the force beam of a force balance transducer so that the beam is responsive to the difference between sensed high and low pressures derived from the process variable, the transducer being exposed to ambient temperature. Each sensor is constituted by a housing having a well therein covered by a sensing diaphragm and an insert seated in the well, the face of the insert being spaced from the diaphragm to define a fill chamber containing hydraulic fluid, the sensor diaphragm being exposed to the process liquid, whereby heat transfer takes place between the liquid and the hydraulic fluid. The insert is formed of a metal having a low coefficient of expansion relative to the material of the housing whereby variations in temperature produce changes in the dimensions of the housing relative to that of the insert and give rise to changes in the volume of the fill chamber to an extent compensating for the concurrent changes in the volume of hydraulic fluid as a result of said heat transfer, thereby rendering the sensor insensitive to temperature changes.
