    • Disclosed is a vane pump capable of decreasing abrasion at a cam surface at the internal surface of a cam ring, pulsation in pump ejected pressure and noise in pump operation. The vane pump is provided with a vane pump section which includes a cam ring rotatably receiving therein a rotor which has a plurality of slits formed radially. Vanes are radially slidably received respectively in the slits to be rotated bodily with the rotor with radial outermost ends sliding on the cam surface. Axial opposite end surfaces of the vane pump section are closed by side wall members, and a backpressure groove which is supplied with the pump ejection pressure in communication with radial innermost end portions of the slits is formed on an inside end surface of each side wall member to encircle the rotational axis of the rotor. Within an angular area where each vane is moved radially inwardly as the rotor rotates, the outer circumferential edge of the backpressure groove is deflected to be indented toward the rotational axis of the rotor along a locus drawn by the radial innermost end of each vane so that the radial innermost end of each vane being rotated does not protrude radially inwardly beyond a predetermined distance from the indented part of the outer circumferential edge of the backpressure groove.

    • A rotary vane/expansion device having a housing, a rotor with a shaft having an axis, a plurality of telescoping vanes extending radially outwardly from the axis to rotationally contact the inner wall of the housing. There is a movable housing which rests on a track. There are two sets of drive pistons. One drives the piston (and housing) in one direction which is in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the shaft. The second drive piston drives the housing along the track in the opposite direction so that the amount of compression can be controlled. The outer edges of the vanes are provided with pin rollers to reduce wear. Telescoping vanes are also disclosed. The cross-section of the housing in a plane perpendicular to the axis has an ovoidal shape. This can also be used to obtain fresh water from salt water. Salt water is placed in a tank with heating coils in it. The tank has an overhead dome with a trough to catch condensed water. The hot compressed air is passed through the heating conduit to heat the water, causing steam to rise in a dome covering the tank. The air is passed back through the expander side, and the expanded cool air flows through the cooling panel in the dome to condense the steam, which is collected in a trough.

    • A sliding-vane rotary compressor including a drive shaft having one end portion rotatably supported by a bearing fitted in a central hole in a rear block, the opposite end portion of the drive shaft extending loosely through a central hole in a front block and being rotatably supported by a bearing fitted in a central bore in a front head, the front head having a plurality of support ribs held in abutment with an outside end face of the front block for supporting the front block. With this construction, the front block and the front bearing are thermally separated from one another, so that a bearing clearance between the front head and the drive shaft is kept always constant even when the front side block is subjected to a high temperature. In addition, by the use of the support ribs, a thinner side block can be used.

    • A cylindrical rotor journalled in a housing has an even number of vanes slidable in slots in the rotor and adapted to sealingly engage the inside wall surface of the housing to form working chambers between the rotor, said wall surface and the vanes, the rotor being provided with recesses adapted to cooperate with outlet parts in the end walls of the housing to form outlet passages for compressed gas.
