    • A retaining wall, supported by a footer, foundation or conventional retaining wall, includes a plurality of post-tensioning rods anchored in the underlying support and extending through the cells of blocks forming the courses of the retaining wall. An elongated apertured plate or a plurality of individual plates rest upon the next to last course to penetrably receive the threaded ends of each of the rods. Nuts engage the threaded ends of the rods to draw the rods to the plate and place them in tension. The top course rests upon the plate or plates and may be constructed as a bond beam. The rods extending from the support may be located adjacent the said side of the retaining wall and bent away therefrom to penetrate the plate or plates at the lateral midpoint of the plate or plates and thereafter extend essentially vertically upwardly. To add an extended wall supported on the bond beam, couplings may be threadedly engaged with the rod ends. Further rods threadedly engage the couplings and extend upwardly. The courses of the extended wall are penetrably engaged with the further rods. An apertured plate or plates rest upon a course to receive the upper threaded ends of the further rods. Nuts engaging the upper ends of the further rods draw the further rods toward the plate or plates to place the further rods in tension. Additional courses or cap blocks may be placed upon the course supporting the plate or plates in the extended wall.

    • A block has a finished surface that provides an attractive appearance. The block is relatively large in size, allowing the quick construction of a wall, such as a retaining wall, using the block. The block includes one or more lift devices embedded in the block that allow the block to be lifted using a suitable lifting apparatus, such as a crane, forklift, backhoe, etc. The block includes multiple retaining knobs that protrude from the lower surface of the block and help to align a block with previously-laid blocks underneath. The block includes multiple voids that extend from the top surface to the bottom surface of the block, and that align with each other when the blocks are stacked into a wall, thereby allowing fill material to be placed in the voids to strengthen the wall. The block is constructed using a block forming apparatus that includes one or more form panels that each have multiple form liners to provide a textured surface of the block. Each form panel may be pivoted away from a bottom surface of the block forming apparatus for easy removal of the block and for easy changing of the panels to fabricate blocks with different characteristics using the same block forming apparatus. The preferred embodiments also include methods for doing business, including the selling, leasing, and purchasing of the block forming apparatus for on-site fabrication of blocks.

    • A retaining wall block system having multiple sizes and shapes of blocks with differently dimensioned, interchangeable front and back faces. The blocks are used to construct an irregularly textured wall having a weathered, natural appearance. Multiple channels in the lower face of the block are used to engage pins in pin-receiving apertures to form an attachment system. Horizontal reinforcing members are also used in the channels and vertical reinforcing members are used in cores of adjacent blocks for reinforcing a wall. Reinforcing geosynthetic materials can also be firmly held in a wall by means of the pins or by connectors adapted to fit in the block channels.

    • An internally stabilized earth wall is disclosed along with facing elements suitable for construction of that wall in a wet marine environment. The wall elements include footer panels and wall panels, each of which is provided with a pivotally attached planar array of reinforcing members. The reinforcing members are hingedly mounted so as to be lowered in a vertical plane to a substantially horizontal posture on top of a lift of particulate material. According to the method, the footer panels are suspended and properly positioned by a stationary crane while crushed stone is dumped into position beneath the footer so as to support it. With the footer in position, the wall is erected by guiding each wall panel of a course into position on top of the associated footer panel and backfilling the wall panel by depositing a layer of particulate material subsequently lowering at least one array of reinforcing members and repeating those steps until the last layer of reinforcing members has been positioned on top of a lift of particulate material. When the top of the wall has attained the appropriate elevation above the water surface, a cap member is integrally cast in place.
