    • The present invention relates to an apparatus for capping in succession containers transported on a conveyance device. The apparatus comprises a cap dispensing station for applying caps on the containers. The cap dispensing station includes a cap release passage, a gating unit and a movable cap ejector. The gating unit includes a barrier, capable to acquire either one of first and second operative positions, and a barrier drive mechanism. In the first operative position, the barrier at least partially closes the cap release passage for preventing a cap from freely travelling through the passage under the effect of gravity. In the second operative position, the barrier uncovers the cap release passage for allowing a cap to pass through the passage. The cap ejector engages the barrier drive mechanism such that the barrier drive mechanism causes the barrier to acquire the second operative position. The capping apparatus yields the benefit of repeatable accurate cap dispensing over containers to be capped, by virtue of the novel gating unit.

    • An orientationally sensitive closure for mounting to a container in a specific orientation includes a closure body and a flange. A spout portion extends from one side of the flange and an orienting projection extends from a side of the flange opposite of the spout. The flange and spout can be coaxial with one another, with the spout centrally disposed thereon. The projection extends from the flange in a non-coaxial relation to the spout and flange. An apparatus for orienting the closure prior to mounting to a container includes a body defining inlet and outlet regions extending along a longitudinal axis of the body. Flange and projection receiving channels extend between the inlet and outlet regions. The flange channel defines a substantially straight-through path through the apparatus, along the longitudinal axis. The projection channel defines a path having at least two bends therein defining a portion generally transverse to the longitudinal axis. The closure rotates as it traverses through the apparatus to orient the closure so that a trailing edge of the closure adjacent the projection is last discharged from the apparatus.

    • The apparatus includes a generally circular table having a fence about its periphery, and is provided with a conveyor for feeding quantities of container crowns onto the table. The table is rotated so that the container crowns are moved outwardly against the fence and fed centrifugally into a twist chute for receiving the crowns. The apparatus is provided with first and second curved channels coupled for conveying containers out of the twist chutes, the second curved channel merging together with the first channel at a point along their respective paths, with the path length of the first channel being substantially longer than that of the second channel between the twist tube, twist chute and the merging point. The apparatus includes the escapement assembly, the speed of which is controlled and is operated at the merging point for controlling the rate of movement of container crowns out of the first and second channels.
